The purpose of the Livelihoods & Food Security (LFS) Specialist position is to be responsible for technical development, strategic direction, and quality assurance as well as monitoring of NRC Sudan’s LFS activities and program, as well as relevant staff mentoring and capacity development. The LFS Specialist is expected to follow NRC’s standards, procedures, and guidelines for CC program governance. What you will do

Key objectives for this role include:

1. Ensure adherence to NRC policies, handbooks, procedures, and SOPs/guidelines;
2. Develop the LFS Core Competency strategy, technical SOPs/guidelines, and Macro kilograms;
3. Responsible for technical quality and contributed to identifying funding opportunities, including funding proposals, project budgets, and donor reports; 
4. Responsible for following up on compliance with contractual commitments within the LFS CC, and ensuring high technical quality and synergies;
5. Provide technical direction and project implementation support;

Specific Responsibilities:

1. Develop tools and methods appropriate to the current fragile context in Sudan to assess the food security and livelihoods-related needs and opportunities to include in responses
2. Gather and analyze food security and livelihoods-related data from target or proposed target populations, as part of integrated or joint assessments, and use this in response analysis to develop contextually appropriate, technically sound new projects and programs and inform advocacy efforts;
3. Provide technical leadership in responding to emergencies, with a focus on Food Security responses and Livelihoods protection, and promote livelihood and food security-related support in hard-to-reach areas in collaboration with an emergency response team
4. Support the consolidation as well as the enhancement of cash-based interventions and market-based approaches within LFS responses, especially in areas where market support could enable the most vulnerable to address their food and livelihood-related needs;
5. Collaborate with different actors (clusters, INGOs, CSOs, private sector) to ensure NRC adds value to the efforts towards improving the food security and livelihood of communities living in the ongoing conflict crisis in Sudan. Provide technical leadership in developing a robust LFS strategy, outlining the key expected outcomes, outputs, and activities required to enable NRC to respond to humanitarian and recovery needs relevant to the continuously worsening and fragile context in Sudan;

What you will bring:

Professional Competencies:

• At least four years in a humanitarian Livelihood and Food Security programming environment, including two years of experience in a senior-level project management position;
• Previous experience working in complex and volatile contexts;
• Documented results related to the position’s technical responsibilities;
• Knowledge in protection mainstreaming, community outreach/engagement, community capacity building, and/or community-development-oriented programming, DRR approaches including environmental analysis;
• Knowledge and skills in market analysis, cash-based interventions, and market-based programs especially in a fragile context
• Fluency in English, both written and verbal; 
• Computer literacy in Microsoft Office, including strong skills in Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Context/ Specific skills, knowledge, and experience: 

• Knowledge of the context in Sudan is desirable;
• Experience in community-based and participatory program design and planning approaches;
• Demonstrated ability to think creatively and practically to improve the quality of LFS projects, especially in fragile emergency contexts ;
• Demonstrated ability in conceptual, analytical, and critical thinking with the ability to develop strategies;
• Strong monitoring and evaluation skills including in managing, reporting, and communicating related data analysis in a clear, concise manner;
• Arabic language skills are an advantage;
• Experience in needs assessment, project monitoring and evaluation, and technical program supervision;
• Experience of a flexible approach to managing and prioritizing a high and diverse workload;
• Proven ability to work effectively across cultures, in sensitive environments, and with stakeholders at all levels.

 What we offer

• Duty station: Kosti, Sudan
• Contract: international contract, 12 months (with possible extension)
• Travel: up to 50%.
• Salary/benefits: grade 9 on NRC’s international salary scale.
