The PSS Officer is responsible for delivering Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) services within PUI’s health facilities, mobile health clinics and at the community level according to PUI’s standards and procedures. 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS: 

  • He/She participates in conducting mental health and psychosocial assessments using tools such as focus group discussions, key informant interviews and community mapping exercises with men, women, boys and girls to identify community’s mental health and psychosocial needs as well as capacities and resources available for support within the community. 
  • In close collaboration with the Health and Nutrition teams, the PSS officer provides community-level psychosocial support activities (suh as individual and group PSS sessions etc), follow-ups and basic focused and non-specialized psychosocial support to beneficiaries based on identified needs. 
  • He/She builds internal and external referral links, identifies and safely refers persons with specific needs to appropriate service providers following referral principles and guidelines and follows them up to ensure meaningful access to services.
  • He/She works together with other team members and prepares/produces various mental health and psychosocial well-being information, education and communication (IEC) messages according to the specific group needs.
  • He/She mobilizes the communities and facilitates mental health and psychosocial well-being awareness-raising activities to disseminate community-wide information about mental health and psychosocial well-being.
  • He/She builds the capacity of the PUI team through training and on-the-job support on topics such as psychological first aid, active listening, effective communication, psychosocial education, and other topics deemed necessary according to the context.
  • He/She builds the capacity of community members/leaders, community structures and humanitarian partners on topics related to psychological first aid, working with individuals and communities affected by trauma, and other emergency PSS interventions. 
  • He/She assists the MHPSS Adviser with designing of training modules and tools on topics related to MHPSS for humanitarian actors, community leaders and other community structures. 
  • Work with the PSS Supervisor and fellow PSS officers to create weekly work plans to schedule the team’s program activities. 
  • He/She liaises and builds partnerships with community leaders and other relevant actors to encourage participation in, support for, and a better understanding of the program activities.
  • He/She participates in field coordination meetings, particularly about MHPSS or protection as requested by his/her line manager. 
  • He/She prepares all the necessary documentation and compiles reports of each activity undertaken. 
  • Perform any other duties as requested by his/her line manager. 

Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS
 Language skills:
Strong command of writing and editing documents in English and Arabic 
 

 Education degree: 
At least a Bachelor’s degree in mental health sciences, psychology, counselling or social sciences from a recognized institution. 
A postgraduate or Master’s degree is desirable. 
 

 Work experience: 
– At least 2 years of work experience in logistics/administrative fields, experience with INGO is preferable INGOs is preferable.
 

 Professional Experience: 
– At least three years of experience in conducting psychosocial support activities 
– Demonstrates strong knowledge of IASC guidance of mental health and psychosocial support services in humanitarian settings
– Experience in conducting assessments (stand-alone or multisectoral)
– Experience in carrying out and supervising MHPSS-related training at different scales with different partners and stakeholders
– Experience in providing MHPSS services to GBV survivors is an asset
