Context:
Sudan is the world’s largest displacement and hunger crisis. NRC Sudan is a large-scale humanitarian operation, working directly in many hard-to-reach areas of the country. The Head of Operation oversees strategic management of programme implementation through our Area and Field Offices. In 2024, NRC has assisted over a million people across Sudan, through the efforts of about 300 staff.
What you will do:
Role and responsibilities:
The purpose of the Head of Operation position is to take the responsibility of running Sudan Country operation, and programme implementation in Area offices assigned from the Country Director.
Key objectives for this role include:
The Deputy Country Director is as delegated from the Country Director, responsible for:
Generic responsibilities:
- Accountable for holding Area Managers responsible for results and compliance with relevant NRC policies, guidance and procedures
- Accountable for the implementation of programs according to developed plans, budgets and set standards
- Accountable for representation and good working relations with authorities, donors and partners at area level
Specific responsibilities:
- Build positive organisational culture of planning, communication, improvement, and problem-solving
- Manage centralised internal information and reporting flows between Area Offices and Country Office departments
- Oversee operational relationships, plans and procedures with neighbouring NRC country operations

What you will bring:

Generic professional competencies:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience from working as a Senior Manager in humanitarian/recovery context
- Documented/proven results related to the position’s responsibilities
- Experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
- Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile
- Fluency in English, both written and verbal
Context related skills, knowledge and experience:
- Knowledge of the context in Sudan is preferred
- Experience with large-scale humanitarian operations and hard-to-reach areas is required
- Experience working with Cash & Markets-based approaches is required
- Experience working in catastrophic hunger crises, acute protection crises, and urban displacement crises is preferred
What we offer
- Duty station: Port Sudan, Sudan
- Salary/benefits: grade 11 on NRC’s salary scale.
- Duration of Contract: 2 years, fixed term
- Travel: 80%
