Duties and responsibilities:
General responsibility:
The Deputy PM Protection will support Head of Protection Program in the management of the TGH Child Protection in Darfur. S/he will be responsible for ensuring professional Child Protection good practices respecting national and global guidelines including the Child Protection Minimum Standards in the implemented project are adhered to. She/he will also conduct reports, monitoring and evaluation of the project and report directly to the Child Protection Program Manager. He/she works in alignment with the CP project strategy defined. He/she works in close coordination with the governmental and non-governmental agencies, with the cluster system, to develop, monitor and orientate the CP project. Together with Program Manager lead on child protection related assessments, programme design and implementation at proposal and strategy level, as well as support on recruitment and procurement, liaising and linking with other sectors in general and child protection in particular. He/she oversees the monitoring & evaluation of child protection and education activities and supports the child protection working group coordination (CPWG).
Responsibilities and related tasks:
- Line Management and Human Resources Management :
In strong collaboration with line manager, the CP PM Deputy should:
- Daily supervision of TGH Child Protection team members.
- Participates in CP team recruitment and revision of job descriptions, in strong collaboration with the line manager.
- Ensures the whole team has a clear understanding of the CP mandate and project.
- Leads and manages staff, encouraging effective team work and providing supervision and guidance, including regular and constructive feedback.
- Plans weekly movement according to the activities and submits it to line manager for follow up and final confirmation
- Project Management:
- Develops, implements and monitors the Child Protection projects in her/his area, in accordance with multiple objectives, activities and targets outlined within current donor proposals and in line with projects’ budgets and chronogram.
- Ensures that activities are appropriately monitored, evaluated and planned, when deemed necessary, amendments to the child protection and education strategy, in consultation with line manager and M&E team.
- Contributes to the initial and regular assessments of the Child Protection projects and activities’ impact.
- Participates in budget revision exercises.
- Prepares timely purchase requests in line with the Child Protection project manager needs.
- Supports required actions by the administration related to protection team management and supervision.
- Identifies logistic and admin support needs related to the CP projects and communicates these to the relevant log/admin support person.
- Identifies and shares with the Head of Protection any technical problems faced, potential risks and proposed solutions.
- Project Strategy and planning:
- Contributes actively to the CP strategy development, implementation, support and follow-up in order to be able to highlight and analyse the challenges that could lead to re orient certain activities or collaboration.
- Guarantee that the strategy of the CP project is implemented, effectively and timely, with relevant authorities and in support to the TGH CP team.
- Capacity Building: Works on and supports the capacity building of CP team, relevant local authorities, and community workers and community groups, as required by the project, specifically on recreational and play activities, PSS, and case management.
- Provides technical support to CP team members as needed.
- Coordination
- Coordinates with CP teams, FSL teams and WASH team, in accordance with CP Program Manager’s orientation.
- Under the supervision of the Program Manager, networks with neighbourhood’s authorities and with the community. Represents TGH adequately and in accordance with his/her competencies.
- Participates in identifying new partnerships and collaboration to broaden the impact of TGH’s CP activities and promote child protection mainstreaming only in agreement with line manager.
- At the request of the CP Program Manager, attends and participates actively in dedicated clusters and coordination meetings (Education, Child Protection)
- With the CP Program Manager, maintains good professional relationships with the Ministries, UN agencies, and NGOs (national & international).
- Reporting
- Provides compiled meeting minutes reports to line manager,
- Collects data/activities reports for the CP Program Manager when requested
- Participates, under the supervision of the CP Program Manager, in writing the intermediate and final reports for donors on education and child protection programs.
- Participates in writing articles, taking pictures, creating communication tools for the donor or HQ.
- Security
- Complies with TGH Security Regulations.
- Reports any security/safety incident and/or risk to the Field Coordinator.
- Informs CP staff under his/her supervision on security rules defined by the Field Coordinator.
- PSEA & Safeguarding:
- Contribute to ensuring that TGH staff and partners respect the PSEA and Child Safeguarding guidelines.
- Promptly and confidentially report any concerns about violations of TGH PSEA and Child Safeguarding Policies to the relevant focal points.
- Other
- Undertakes all other duties that may be determined by the Field Coordinator or the CP Program Manager and that are compatible with the job.
- Maintains and ensures a culture of strict confidentiality – inter TGH staff and between TGH staff and non TGH employees.
- Ensures translation, oral and written, form Arabic/English and vice versa.
Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:
Required knowledge and Skills
- Bsc degree (in asocial sciences, development studies, education, International relation, law, Human rights)
- Post Graduate diploma is related field will be an asset.
- At least 4 years of professional experience in job related to Child Protection.
- At least 2 year of experience in managerial position.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Sudanese Child Protection system.
- Previous experience in the humanitarian sector is required.
- Strong computer skills; good knowledge of Microsoft office pack.
- Ability to write and speak fluent English and Arabic.
- Excellent project management and planning skills.
- Strong leadership/team management skills.
- Excellent communication and reporting skills.
