The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide protection and humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.
THE PURPOSE
The Cook provides quality and timely cooking services at the ICRC premises.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Prepares meals (strictly respecting hygiene principles), with minimum food waste (uses older items first).
- Orders/purchases and manages stocks of food and non-food (e.g. cooking gas, etc.).
- Ensures cooking equipment is in good condition (safe for use) and that the kitchen and canteen/dining hall are cleaned after each use (respecting hygiene rules).
- Provides cleaning/housekeeping/laundry services at ICRC premises.
- Informs his/her supervisor about any issues regarding the premises (materials needed to carry out duties, malfunctioning equipment, damaged furniture, or premises, etc.)
- Apply the cleaning rules and principles all the time.
Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:
- Sudanese nationality
- Primary school education.
- 2 years’ work experience in a similar field of activity.
- Knows and applies kitchen/cooking hygiene principles.
- Basic knowledge of English.Skilled in the following competencies: Leadership, Accountability, People management, Teamwork & Collaboration, Representing the ICRC, Beneficiary & Client focused.
