Medical Teams International (MTI), in partnership with UNHCR, WFP, and other donors, collaborates with the MoH , HAC and CoR, and other relevant government authorities to ensure access to and utilization of quality health and nutrition services for refugees and host communities across MTI health facilities .
Medical Teams International are looking for qualified Lab Technologist to serve as the technical focal point for establishing, leading, supervising, and planning all laboratory activities within the primary healthcare services/facilities. This includes managing laboratory supplies, equipment, reagents, and medical devices, as well as TB equipment and devices. The incumbent will also play a important role in supporting outbreak/disaster preparedness and response efforts within the state/region.
Duties and responsibilities:
Responsibilities:
Laboratory Management:
- Oversee the daily operations of the laboratory, including specimen collection, processing, and testing.
- Ensure the proper functioning, maintenance, and calibration of all laboratory equipment and devices.
- Manage the inventory of laboratory supplies, reagents, and consumables, including TB-related equipment.
- Always ensure the availability of essential laboratory supplies and equipment.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all laboratory activities.
Technical Guidance & Supervision:
- Provide technical guidance and supervision to laboratory staff at all six health facilities.
- Conduct regular on-the-job training and capacity-building sessions for laboratory staff.
- Monitor the quality of laboratory services and ensure adherence to national and international quality standards.
- Implement and monitor quality control measures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of laboratory results.
Data Management & Reporting:
- Collect, compile, and analyze laboratory data.
- Prepare regular reports on laboratory activities, including data on testing volumes, turnaround times, and quality control results.
- Share relevant data with MTI staff, MoH, and other relevant stakeholders.
Outbreak Response:
- Participate in the development and implementation of outbreak preparedness and response plans.
- Assist in the rapid diagnosis and reporting of outbreaks of infectious diseases.
- Provide laboratory support for outbreak investigations and control measures.
- Ensure the availability of necessary supplies and equipment for outbreak response.
Collaboration & Coordination:
- Collaborate closely with clinicians, midwives, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the integration of laboratory services into the overall patient care pathway.
- Work closely with the MoH and other relevant stakeholders to coordinate laboratory activities and ensure adherence to national guidelines.
- Participate in relevant meetings and workshops to stay updated on best practices in laboratory medicine.
Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science, Medical Technology, or a related field.
- Three years of relevant experience as a Medical Laboratory Technologist in a clinical setting.
- Strong knowledge of laboratory techniques, including microscopy, hematology, biochemistry, parasitology, and microbiology.
- Experience in managing laboratory operations, including inventory control, equipment maintenance, and quality control.
- Experience in training and supervising laboratory staff.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in English and Arabic
- Experience working in humanitarian settings or resource-constrained environments is highly desirable
KNOWLEDGE
- Experience in TB laboratory diagnostics.
- Experience working with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
- Knowledge of relevant international health standards and guidelines.
SKILLS
- Skilled in project planning and monitoring
- Skilled in data analysis and report writing.
- Skilled in mentorship and delegation to develop a collaborative team
- Skilled at using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
- A good command of both written and spoken English.
