Role Overview
The Financial Accountant reports to the Finance Coordinator and works closely with finance, program managers, thematic leads, and support services (procurement, logistics, HR, grants). The role supports implementation of global and country financial strategies, ensures accurate and timely financial reporting, strengthens transparency and accountability, and contributes to cost-effective use of resources. Key responsibilities include intercompany processes, payments, bank reconciliations, and audit support.
Key Accountabilities
- Real-time data entry and accurate processing of payments and journals in SAP
- Monthly reconciliation and clearance of vendor, creditor, OIM, and staff advance accounts
- Monitoring and reporting on staff advances and field operational balances
- Petty cash spot checks and support to asset verification
- Timely settlement of statutory obligations (taxes, pensions, withholdings)
- Support CO finance operations and respond to ad-hoc assignments
Compliance & Safeguarding
Ensures full adherence to Plan International policies on Child Protection, Gender Equality & Inclusion, and Code of Conduct, including staff awareness and proper reporting of concerns.
Key Relationships
- Internal: Finance Coordinator, Country Finance Manager, Program Area Manager, finance, support services, and program teams (high coordination and reporting)
- External: Partners (operational coordination and progress updates)
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong analytical, communication, presentation, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in English and Arabic (written and spoken)
- Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, SAP)
- 2–3 years’ finance/accounting experience in INGO or UN context
- Knowledge of Sudan taxation and social insurance
- Ability to work in multicultural environments and under pressure
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance or professional accounting qualification
- Experience managing donor-funded projects (DFID, EC, ECHO, UNDP, USAID)
