The Norwegian Refugee Council has an interesting and rewarding opportunity to be part of our newest country of operation – Sudan.
The NRC has recently re-registered to operate in Sudan, and is currently in country start-up phase, conducting assessments and designing the first steps of the programme. Focus will be given to people displaced by conflict, refugees, and vulnerable migrants, and potential geographical areas of work will be Khartoum state, South Kordofan, Gadarif and Blue Nile on a first phase, with the idea to expand to other States.
As a priority, NRC is therefore hiring an Education Assistant to be part of establishing NRC’s programme in Sudan.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines, with strict adherence to the Code of Conduct and Child Safeguarding policies
- Assist with the implementation of the NRC Education South Kordofan portfolio
- Prepare status reports and other documents as required by Line Manager
- Ensure proper filing of documents including Securing Supporting Documentation
- Promote the rights of IDPs, refugees, returnees and the host community in-line with SPERE and INEE Minimum Standards
- Promote and share ideas for project and activity improvement
- Support Accelerated Learning Program (ALP) Centres including working closely with ALP teachers and related Departments within the State Ministry of Education
- Ensure communication, sensitization & mobilization of beneficiaries and stakeholders: community leaders, school administration: headmasters and deputy headmasters, Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs), Mothers Groups, teachers and students
- Regularly travel to the field providing support/trainings and capacity building in MHPSS
- Support distributions of teaching and learning supplies
- Support Education Officers in monitoring of project Outputs/Outcomes as per M&E plan
- Support NRC’s Complaints Feedback Mechanism (CFM) including interaction with Education CFM focal point and the M&E Unit
- Follow up with school administration on Digital Attendance inputs
- Any other tasks requested by the Supervisor or management.
Required skills
- Experience working in Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education or Psychology, or any other relevant social degree
- Experience working in the Greater Kordofans is essential (either South or North or West Kordofan)
- Computer literacy including MS Word and Excel
- Willingness to travel to the field including to remote locations when requested
- Fluency in Arabic (written and verbal) & good working English language skills required
