MAIN PURPOSE: The Health and Nutrition Project Manager will be responsible for all emergency health and nutrition activities. He/she will be responsible for providing technical leadership, budget management, and the day-to-day management of the projects, including recruitment and reporting. The Project Manager will be based in the RN state. The project manager will be responsible for liaison and coordination with the appropriate government authorities, donors and other agencies of interest. The project manager will Report to the Program Director Executive Director and other operation teams.
Duties and responsibilities:
Project Management :
- Management of emergency health and nutrition interventions in the fields.
- Responsible for project planning, reporting, liaison, and budget management
- Develop work plans, recruitment plans, reporting mechanisms and training plans using the project monitoring tool.
- Work closely with the field teams to determine the operational needs of emergency health and nutrition interventions
- Track budget and manage program activities according to the scope of the grant and budget
- Supervising activities implementation and monitoring and evaluating the objectives, indicators, and outcomes and ensuring accurate and timely data collection at the field level
- Assist in the compilation of data for weekly, bi-weekly reports and quarterly reports with the M&E Officer and technical unit
- Contribute to the production of proposals for new projects
- Work with field teams and logistics to procure program supplies within program budgets
- Regularly update the country office on the progression of programs as per protocol
- Liaise closely with local authorities, and donor and partner agencies to ensure program compliance with donor policies and regulations and complementary with other agencies’ efforts.
- Maintain flexibility to take on added responsibility as and when needed.
- Recurrent visits for the field.
Technical:
- Provide technical guidance on the overall strategy for program design and management
- Ensure that all program activities and training are both in line with global standards and ministry and local government requirements
- Conduct and provide technical support on nutrition and health assessments
- Work closely with M&E to ensure activities are contributing towards program targets
Human Resources Management:
- In cooperation with HR Manager, hire and supervise staff to ensure their smooth and effective operations
- Assist in the selection and training of qualified program staff and recommend promotions, disciplinary action, and termination of staff in consultation with the Executive Director, HR, and Finance
- Ensure compliance with local labor laws including working hours
- Maintain open lines of communication with all field staff
Training/ Capacity Building:
- Determine training needs for subordinate staff
- Train project staff to increase their responsibilities to build capacity and ensure the sustainability of programs
- Conducts staff evaluations and advocates and plans for professional development for all staff.
Working Relationships:
- Maintains frequent communication with Field staff to ensure program activities and objectives are communicated
- Works with Logistics staff to ensure the coordination of program supplies is within budgeted targets
- Interfaces with national government and relevant agencies as necessary
Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:
- Hold a degree in Nutrition, Public health, Pharmacy, Health Science or relevant fields
- Has a minimum 3 years of experience working in similar positions
- Ability to effectively communicate with the team
- Self-motivated, results-driven and excellent sense of organization
- Good writing skills – ability to develop high-quality reports and accurately analyze M&E data
- Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions quickly and independently
- Extremely flexible, and have the ability to cope with stressful situations.
- Ability to relate to and effectively motivate staff
- Ability to represent the Agency in high-level meetings with local government
- Good in computer applications, especially with Word and Excel, PowerPoint a plus
Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS): The role holder is required to carry out the duties in adherence to the Core Humanitarian Standards, the values and principles outlined in BFD’s policies such as Code of Conduct, Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse, Child Safeguarding, Anti Workplace Harassment, Fiscal Integrity, Anti-Retaliation, and other internal policies and guidelines.
