The purpose of this position is to provide technical expertise, analysing market needs and opportunities of key value chains, advising on technical management for the development of sustainable value chains. The position holder will coordinate and liaise with other Concern’s sector supervisors as FSL project Officer, Field supervisor, System Team, other program staff

Programme Implementation: 

  • Prepare monthly work plan of activities to be implemented and submit to the FSL coordinator for approval.
  • He/she will be responsible in establishing farmer producer groups, capacitates them to generate incomes and provision of periodic capacity building training to develop them in line with identified weakness.
  • Conduct meetings with business leaders and farmer organizations.
  • Organize discussions and negotiation between suppliers and buyers to “link” farmers and agribusinesses.
  • Work with M&E department to track the linkages between farmers and agribusinesses and to measure their impact on farmers.
  • Identify market chain participants at each exchange point and be able to approach them to investigate their volumes handled, prices they pay for raw material, their sale prices, and interview them to determine their constraints and bottle necks.
  • Provide periodic training to farmer groups on basic bookkeeping and business analysis.
  • Offers professional training in marketing to the established groups e.g famer groups, income generating groups etc.
  • Take lead on engaging relevant and key value chain actors and coordinate their roles on respective value chain stages (producers, inputs suppliers, transporters, processors, consumers etc)
  • Facilitate stakeholders’ forums to address value chain constraints and maximize market development opportunities.
  • Train, coach and mentor local market facilitators for effective market linkages.
  • Facilitate project officers in the delivery of in Market and Value chain thematic interventions.
  • Lead value chain (and/or situational) analysis exercise among the implementing organization.
  • Facilitate prioritization of specific ecological sounding and market-led value chains which will contribute to land restoration efforts to the community in accordance with the value chain analysis’s report recommendation.
  • They will ensure project quality implementation of enhanced agricultural production, post-harvest handling, storage, and processing, improved food safety and security, improved market linkages, business development, new product marketing and branding.
  • Build the capacity of value chain actors through training, mentorship and coaching in basic business management and life skills.
  • Provide training and coaching to new, existing women agro-business groups and self-help groups on processing, marketing, packaging, and selling approaches.
  • Facilitate project team members to organize exposure visits, trade missions, value chain working group platforms and broader stakeholder forums to enhance market linkage.
  • Promote exchanges of knowledge and lessons learned in connection with activities under the project, and more generally with the development of efficient and inclusive value chains.
  • Submit accurate compiled reports, monthly, quarterly work plans and sharing the final draft with FSL Coordinator/PM.

Networking:

  • Liaise with relevant government departments, NGO networks.
  • Participate in relevant locality level meetings and represent business and value chain development interventions.
  • Network with other international and local NGOs for experience sharing and learning on business and value chain activities.

Others:

  • Be aware of, understand and comply with all of Concern’s policies and procedures (Code of Conduct and Associated policies, finance, logistics, HR, security management etc.).
  • Contribute to ongoing security management and planning as necessary.
  • Actively participate in any emergency response if called upon to do so (within the existing programme area or in a new one).
  • Undertake other related duties as may reasonably be assigned by the Supervisor.

Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Essential

  • At least Diploma in Agriculture, Business, Agri-business, or related discipline with strong experience in value addition projects
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in NGO setting in direct field role as value addition or marketing officer.
  • Good knowledge of agriculture and rural livelihood activities.
  • Strong technical report writing skills. 
  • Experience in different extension approaches and methods;
  • Strong community mobilisation and facilitation skills; 
  • Good communication skills. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a team player 
  • Computer skills. 
  • Knowledge of and experience in working in West Kordofan.

Desirable

  • Experience in using Digital Data Gathering tools 
  • Experience in working with local community leaders.

Other duties

The above duties will be prioritised by the manager in consultation with the post-holder. The post-holder may be asked to re-organise their work to help Concern respond to changes in type or extent of need. This would be done in a way consistent with the purposes of the post and in consultation with the post-holder.
