DRC has been present in Sudan since 2004, delivering life-saving programming in protection, emergency response, shelter, food security and livelihoods, disaster risk reduction, camp management, and humanitarian mine action. DRC has implemented projects in Central Darfur, South Darfur, South Kordofan, Gedaref, Kassala, and Khartoum states. Sudan hosts one of the largest displaced populations in Africa, with over 3.7 million internally displaced people and over 1.1 million refugees from South Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Central African Republic, Chad, Yemen and Syria. Against a background of political crisis, Sudan faces economic and social turmoil, with sharp increases in food and energy costs, further exacerbated by disease outbreaks and ongoing conflict.

 About the job

 Context: Following the fighting which erupted between SAF and RSF on 15th April, there has been a major IDP and refugee influx towards White Nile from other areas, mainly Khartoum, which has increased the need for humanitarian assistance. As a response to the emergency, DRC is establishing an office in Kosti, White Nile, to provide emergency response including WASH, MPCA and S/NFI support.

The overall purpose of the role:

Under the supervision of the Emergency Team Leader, the Assistant will ensure the effective implementation of DRC’s emergency response activities in Gezira State. This includes organizing and supervising the integrated emergency response including rapid needs assessments and emergency MPCA, S/NFI distribution and WASH interventions. S/he will have a CVA background and strong negotiation skills.

Responsibilities and Tasks

Responsibilities:

  • In charge of overseeing day-to-day field-level activities ensuring these are completed according to standards. This include participation in Needs Assessments, Registration of beneficiaries, distribution of CASH, distribution of S/NFI items and promotion of Hygiene activities
  • Conduct regular visits to project implementation sites for quality assurance and engage with communities as needed.
  • Ensure proper reporting and monitoring of program activities in coordination with MEAL including drafting of project reports.
  • Lead and participate in needs assessments and distributions as required. Draft and compile assessment and distribution documents for all caseloads.
  • Lead referrals of vulnerable beneficiaries to additional service providers when relevant and as possible (internal and external stakeholders).
  • Ensure project-related issues and challenges are addressed in a timely manner by informing line manager and relevant departments
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with all stakeholders including community leader’s government departments NGOs community-based organizations and other DRC sectors to enhance cooperation and coordination
  • Internal teams: ER security protection finance logistics MEAL
  • External: relevant government departments (HAC and CoR) local community leaders and projects’ beneficiaries

Perform other duties as requested by supervisor.

Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Experience and technical competencies: (include years of experience)

Associate/Technical or Bachelor’s degree required. Minimum three years of experience working with local or international NGOs with two years doing emergency programming (ex: CASHM, WASH, NFI and Shelter).

  • Experience in managing the collection recording and analysis of data.
  • Demonstrated experience in building networks and working with government bodies and communities
  • Good management skills report writing and administrative skills
  • Familiarity with the context culture traditions and its sensitiveness
  • Good knowledge of MS office (mainly Word and Excel)
  • Strong communication skills; fluency in Arabic required and good knowledge of spoken and written English desired
  • Ability to cope with stress work under difficult circumstances and meet deadlines

Flexibility and willingness to relocate at short notice outside the normal area of operations and for short periods of time (the position is 90% field base

Education background: (include certificates, licenses etc.)

Languages: (indicate fluency level)

Essential qualification

  • University degree in social sciences, international law, humanitarian affairs or similar field.
  • Desirable qualifications: Fluency in written and spoken English and Arabic.

Advanced University degree

We offer

Contract length: 6 months

Level: Non-manager

Salary range: 826-932 USD

Location: Aljazeera State
