MSF-Swiss is seeking to employ 2 (two) qualified candidates in the Khartoum Project for the position of Cook. Interested applicants may find the detailed job description of this position below.
Duties and responsibilities:
Main Purpose of the position:
Prepare meals for MSF staff, according to hygiene standards and security rules, in order to ensure their nutritional needs.
Responsibilities
- Prepare weekly list items for buying in the market.
- Carry out the preparation of meals for staff (2 meals to be cooked: lunch in the office for all staff, dinner in guesthouse for staff living there).
- Follow at all times all hygiene standards and security rules.
- Control stock of food so as to ask for anything needed on time and prepare shopping list and make purchases if required.
- Ensure meals to be served on time.
- If applicable set table before every meal and clean it up after each meal.
- Ensure cleanliness of all facilities, utensils and equipment.
- If domestic cook, ensure the provision of drinkable water during the day and when she / he leaves: cleaning, filling the filter and empty bottles, changing batteries if necessary.
- Look after all equipment provided.
- Keep an inventory of MSF kitchen utensils and equipment, i.e. plates, glasses, cutlery, cookware, etc., and ensure its integrity.
- Report all important information (lost, robbery, damages, deterioration, incident, etc.).to superior.
- Collaborate with responsible person the planning of meals, money collection for shopping, wishes and needs of staff and other matters to discuss.
Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:
Requirements
Education: Essential: Literacy in Arabic; desirable: Cooking courses completed.
Experience:
- Essential: Minimum 2 years of experience in this or similar positions.
- Highly desirable: Experience with MSF or another (I)NGOs, experience in cooking for international staff (foreign food).
Language: Written and spoken Arabic; highly desirable: basic spoken and written English.
Knowledge:
- Familiarity with the local market (where to find good quality food to good prices).
- Familiarity with hygiene standards for kitchens and food preparation and management of stock (no food waste).
- Openness to cook local and foreign meals and learn new recipes.
