Provide outpatient and/or inpatient medical care to patients/beneficiaries according to adapted and updated medical knowledge, MSF protocols, values and universal hygiene standards to improve the patients/beneficiary’s health conditions.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Apply medical knowledge and skills to diagnose and prevention. Carry out outpatient and inpatient consultations, prescribing the necessary treatment respecting MSF protocols.
- Keep the patient and/or his/her family informed about the illness and provide appropriate explanations about the treatment to follow, checking they have understood.
- Follow up the evolution of the hospitalized/IDP patients, through daily visits, consultations and examinations, prescribing the necessary treatment following MSF protocols, deciding whether they can be discharged or transferred to other departments – in collaboration with other doctors- and informing their family about the patient’s evolution.
- Check and control the rational distribution of medicines and equipment under his/her responsibility and take care the quality, disinfection, and sterilization of the medical material. Assure general compliance with standing hygiene standards.
- Participate in the collection and analysis of epidemiological data, checking its validity and informing the line manager or project coordinator about any problem or complication of the patient’s illness, medical error and monitors the proper functioning of the department, equipment or material.
- Ensure ongoing training of the medical/paramedical multidisciplinary team in order to optimize the quality of care.
- Knows and ensures all MSF medical protocols are followed and implemented, checking universal precautions are followed at all times and reducing bio-hazard risks and improving infection control. Ensucres Professional confidentiality is respected.
MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities
- Ensure proper follow up of the patients according to MSF standard/pediatrics protocols.
- Ensure the patients are following the proper discharge and admission criteria defined.
- Ensure proper triaging is done and provide the adequate emergency management for the patients in the ER according to the severity, following MSF protocol.
- Follow up the evolution of the malnourish patients admitted in the ITFC (Inpatients therapeutic feeding center), through daily visits, consultations, and examinations, prescribing the necessary treatment, and therapeutic milk/food following MSF protocols, deciding whether they can be discharged in collaboration with other doctors, nutritionist, and nurses – and informing their family about the patient’s evolution.
- Identify and provide the proper management for patients with notifiable diseases (measles, cholera. diphtheria, meningitis,…), reporting the cases and follow the IPC measures.
- Ensure proper documentation is done in the patients clinical file and support with the data necessary for the analysis of the activities.
- Ensure rational prescription of medication especially antibiotics and the treatment are follow up according the MSF guidelines.
- Follow up the child vaccination and link with EPI program.
- Identify the children and caretakers with psychosocial issues and refer to the counselor, insuring the patients confidentiality and privacy.
- Participate and identify needs for training according the project objectives and needs.
- Conduct on job trainings in collaboration with the rest of the medical team and engaging with the MoH
- Work in close collaboration with MoH medical staff.
- Inform line manager about any possible serious medical events or complication.
- Inform line manager of any problems that might be linked to human or material resources.
- Support the good collaboration with MoH staff and the different hospital departments.
- Respect and follow the hierarchical lines of communication.
- Maintain at all times good atmosphere in the workplace including a commitment with the behavior policy of MSF.
Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:
Education | Essential University bachelor’s degree, Tropical Medicine and related fields General Practition. Desirable diploma in Tropical Medicine. |
Experience | 2-year experience minimum as a Medical Doctor or in clinical work after the medical training. Desirable in tropical medicine, or post-registration experience in Public Health, pediatrics, infectious diseases, HIV/AIDS/STDs, TB. experience in pediatrics, and nutrition is essential. Having worked in MSF or other NGO’s and in developing countries is desirable. Registration in the Sudanese medical council is essential. |
