Plan, organize, and evaluate the activities concerning nursing and the team associated, according to MSF values, policies and protocols and universal health standards, in order to warrant the quality and continuity of the health care and the development of the plan of action. 

  • Carry out the functions and tasks associated to nursing i.e. perform as a nurse or anesthetist, whenever required or needed, in order to optimize the resources, contributing with his/her knowledge and experience. 
  • Implement all the protocols and hygiene procedures and supervise his/her team follow the same standards, in order to warrant the quality of the care and service in his/her specialty.
  • Organize and coordinate the activities of his/her team (week’s schedule, annual leave, absences, etc.), evaluate their performance and define and ensure the needs for training of staff, in order to ensure the coverage of the human resources needs and maintain high standards of quality.
  • Carry out and/or supervise the (decentralized) pharmacy and medical equipment management (drugs orders, follow-up of the stock, storage conditions, inventories, follow-up of expired drugs and their destruction, drugs consumption, etc.) in his or her department, in order to satisfy the needs of material with efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Ensuring that all staff using medical devices are qualified and trained. Ensuring that cleaning and minor maintenance tasks are performed according to the protocols. Reporting any malfunction to the project biomedical service.
  • Carry-out and/or coordinate administrative (exit-paper, transfer-paper, etc.), information and data collection (patient files, forms, statistics, etc.) tasks, and elaborate regular reporting, in order to have updated and reliable information about the day-to-day activity in the project, output/ outcome and support decision-taking.
  • Give feedback/ reports to medical focal point.

    MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities

    Organize and coordinate the nursing team in collaboration with the MoH NTS, supervising them and making sure the MSF standards are followed up in the pediatrics supported departments. 
  • Perform the duties and tasks associated with his/her role of supervisor in order to optimize resources, contribute that the nursing protocols are followed, documentation of the patients are well completed. 
  • Responsible for the implementation of the administrative task of the team as roster, weekly schedule, annual leave, absences, etc.), evaluate their performance in the different pediatric wards, define, and cover staff training needs in order to ensure coverage of human resources needs and maintain a high level of quality.
  • Perform and/or supervise the management of the pharmacy and medical equipment. Responsible to supervise the usage of the drugs, medication orders, preparation of the drugs with good quality for the medication orders. Support the inventories of the teams and in collaboration with the pharmacy supervisor. Ensure inventory and control of biomedical equipment on the units. Follow-up logistic maintenance of biomed and ensure proper medical cleaning of biomed equipment on the units.
  • Ensure adherence to MSF nursing protocols and preparation/administration of medications as per MSF guidelines. Including Focal point for the early warning systems on the unit (NEWS, PEWS) and ensure proper surveillance and documentation completed as per the guideline. Including nursing documentation thorough and complete for each unit.
  • Ensure proper patient flow on the units, admission and discharge according the criteria and in collaboration with the the NAM and MAM improve patient flow.
  • Support the implantation of the IPC protocols and procedures and check that your team follows the same standards, in order to guarantee the quality of care and service in your specialty in collaboration with the IPC nurse.
  • Ensure trainings implemented according to the needs of the staff and the training schedule is follow up and updated. Ensure all medical staff on units is trained and able to follow the post-exposure algorithm, including immediate first aid provision.
  • Prepare weekly supply order of non-pharmaceutical stock (stationary). 
  • Attend all scheduled coordination meetings.
  • Identifie and liaises with MH team for high risk, vulnerable patients on the unit and ensures proper follow-up of these cases.
  • Promote the good waste management segregation and ensure the segregation and the disposal are according MSF protocol. Collaborate with hospital IPC supervisor weekly.
  • In collaboration with the team, conduct morning report and ward briefings.
  • Supervise that the patient file is completed making sure proper documentation and nursery notes are signed and with date and time.
  • Support the good collaboration with MoH staff and the different hospital departments. 
  • Respect and follow the hierarchical lines of communications. 
  • Maintaine at all time good atmosphere in the work place including commitment with the behavior policy of MSF.

Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

EducationEssential University bachelor’s degree Specialty in (nurse or anesthetist).
ExperienceEssential 1-2 years of previous related Nursing experience.
Having worked in MSF or other NGO’s and in developing countries is desirable.
Registration in the Sudanese medical council is essential. 
Languages                       Mission and local language essential.
