Summary
The Nutrition intervention will focus on the provision of an integrated community-based management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) program including a stabilization center, early detection of acute malnutrition through Mass MUAC screening, vitamin A/Folic acid supplementation, and deworming. Also, community activities via awareness sessions to improve nutrition practice, and establishment of Mother Support group and IYCF-E activities at the community’s level. Under the direct supervision of the Health and Nutrition Coordinator, the Nutrition Manager will have the overall responsibilities for the nutrition activities, including planning, implementation, M&E, and Reporting. S/She will have line management of the Nutrition officer/Nutrition team at the field and liaise with the support/operation team to ensure quality programming, support capacity building of the staff, and ensure a consistent nutrition supply chain for Nutrition commodities. Also, support with coordination, needs assessment, and design for future program development.
Accountabilities
Technical Support and management
- Ensure planning, and proper implementation of the project activities, including monitoring and evaluation, and reporting in line with proposed targets and work plans/timelines. Also, provide monthly updates on the nutrition activity progress to the Health and Nutrition coordinator and senior management.
- Support in coordination with the operation team the provision of nutrition supplies/commodities via identified supply chains, timely requisition, and stock management to avoid stock out.
- Provide technical support to Nutrition staff, MSG, and the CHWs at the program sites through the provision of technical guidance, supervision, and support.
- Support the capacity building, training (including job training), and mentoring of the nutrition staff, CHWs, and MSG in the clinics and community level to ensure quality of programming, and adherence to national and international nutrition guidelines and standards.
- Provide performance evaluation and review to nutrition staff to ensure performance objectives and development goals are set with achievable objectives and deliverables.
- Support and lead the CMAM & IYCF-E activities implemented at the clinic and community level such as Nutrition screening, referral, awareness, and nutrition practices.
- Plan and execute Mass MUAC screening exercises and support with data collation, analysis, and reporting.
- In collaboration with M&E, develop a standardized M&E tool and make follow-up and take action on data quality issues identified. Coordinate and be involved in the setup of complaint feedback mechanisms and PSEA-sensitive programming.
- Support the need assessment and participate in proposal development.
- Support in the recruitment process and line management of the nutrition field/clinic staff.
Coordination/ Partnership and Advocacy:
- In coordination with the Health and Nutrition coordinator actively engage and represent MTI in the coordination platforms including Sudan Nutrition sector/cluster, MOH, partners, and other identified stakeholders.
- Networking with partners at the intervention areas to avoid duplication, good working relationships, and complementarity where needed.
- In close coordination with Health and Nutrition, the Nutrition manager will be engaging in advocacy activities with key stakeholders and donors especially UNICEF, UNHCR, other UN agencies, and institutional donors.
Safeguarding
- Ensure the Safeguarding of program participants and employees through promoting an environment of awareness and upholding the code of conduct provisions of Medical Teams’ Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse, Child and Vulnerable Adult Protection, and harassment-free workplace policies.
Requirements
Education, Licenses, & Certifications
- A bachelor’s degree in human nutrition, Dietetics, or a related field is required.
- A Master’s degree in nutrition and dietetics / Public Health is an added advantage.
- An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience of at least 3 years is an added advantage.
Experience
- A minimum of 3 years of nutrition field experience with a busy project implementation is required.
- Experience in clinical medicine or community health is an added advantage.
- Experience working in emergency operations is an added advantage
- Experience in CMAM, IYCF, and SBCC.
- Experience with UN programming especially UNICEF & WFP.
- Trained in CMAM and IYCF, including management of SAM with medical complications.
- Experience and familiarity with the humanitarian coordination mechanism.
- Experience working with community mobilization and integrated interventions.
- Ability to build the capacity of nutrition staff in the OTP, TSFP, and SC management.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge
Extensive knowledge of nutrition principles and management of acute malnutrition
Skills
- Skilled in coordinating staff and community members to deliver nutrition treatment at the facility and health education sessions and nutritional screening activities
- Skilled in conducting nutritional assessments and managing cases
- Skilled in presenting complex information at an appropriate level to an individual or group
- Skilled in using behavior change strategies to mobilize community members to take ownership of healthcare needs.
- Skilled in data analysis and report writing
- Skilled at using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- A good command of both written and spoken English
Abilities
- Keen desire to build the capacity of staff.
- Ability to be flexible and manage stress, especially in situations which require a high degree of
- diplomacy
- Ability to work with minimal supervision, and a team player
- Ability to maintain detailed records with high accuracy.

Physical Conditions
- This position requires work at health facilities located in remote areas with very basic living conditions.
