The Norwegian Refugee Council has an interesting and rewarding opportunity to be part of our newest country of operation – Sudan.
The NRC has recently re-registered to operate in Sudan, and is currently in country start-up phase, conducting assessments and designing the first steps of the programme. Focus will be given to people displaced by conflict, refugees, and vulnerable migrants, and potential geographical areas of work will be Khartoum state, South Kordofan, Gadarif and Blue Nile on a first phase, with the idea to expand to other States.
As a priority, NRC is therefore hiring an Education Team Leader to be part of establishing NRC’s programme in Sudan.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Management of project staff
- Implement plan of action for delegated portfolio of Education (2) projects (activities, budget and project documentation)
- Day to day follow of progress in project implementation
- Ensure compliance with NRC policies CC tools, handbooks and guidelines
- Strict adherence to the NRC Code of Conduct and Child Safeguarding Policy
- Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need, and explore and asses new and better ways to assist vulnerable communities.
- Monitor, evaluate and suggest changes and improvements in the project and materials based on observations and discussions with the local staff and the PC.
- Document technical issues and questions, and channel to the PC.
- Support assessments for school selection and on-going out-of-school children data gathering
- As requested, support in development of new proposals and budgets for education activities
- Assess needs for capacity building among education staff and share with PC/ PM to jointly address capacity needs.
- Support sector coordination efforts and represent NRC at inter-agency meetings when PC/PM is not available
- Ensure Child Protection referral pathways are put in place and utilized in areas of implementation; liaise with Child Protection and other Education actors
- Travel to implementation areas regularly to manage local education authority relations
- Organize and lead trainings for project staff (and local MoE) based on technical requirements of projects
- Conduct teacher trainings and conduct follow up observations and spot checks
- Contribute to recruitment processes of education staff as necessary
- Support team in Education in Emergencies response preparedness as directed by PM
- Any other task relevant to the position as requested by line manager
Our ideal candidate:
- At least 3 years of experience working with EiE programme in an NGO or related organisation
- Candidates with a university and/or advanced degree in Education or relevant subject;
- Significant experience in the field of PSS or Child Protection
- Knowledge of the circumstances, needs and challenges displacement and conflict-affected refugee, host community, returnee and IDP children face preferred
- Experience with youth/adolescent programming and linkages to livelihoods an asset
- Experience with EiE and formal basic education in a humanitarian context preferred
- Experience working with children and/or teachers/educators required
- Experience liaising with local and community stakeholders preferred
- Experience with project procurement and budget tracking a priority
- Field level experience with an NGO preferred
- Understanding of SPHERE and INEE Minimum Standards is required
