DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This position is located in the United Nations Integrated Transition Assistance Mission (UNITAMS) in Khartoum, Sudan. The Medical Officer will work under the guidance of the Chief Medical Officer.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Chief Medical Officer, the Medical Officer will be responsible following:
a. Clinical Duties:
Undertakes day-to-day clinical duties, e.g., walk-in clinic, emergencies and smooth running of a level 1 clinic.
Be on call for emergency assistance and ensure they are provided the needed medical care in local hospitals
Plan, Organize and execute Tactical and strategical Medevac and CASEVAC of UN personnel
Undertakes day-to-day occupational health duties: pre-placement and periodic medical examinations, prepares UN staff for travelling providing them immunizations, malaria prophylaxis, travel kits, etc. , when required.
Refers staff to outside specialists as necessary and Follows-up with them.
Provides health education and health promotion programs with particular attention on Covid-19 prevention and vaccination.
Participates in addressing work environment and occupational health issue including Hygiene and risk vector control in UNITAMS premises.
b. Medical Administrative Duties:
Liaises with UN contracted medical facilities in the Mission and outside mission.
Follows the United Nations established policies and procedures regarding medical clearances, sick leave
and medical evacuations/repatriations.
Participates in drafting and implementation of business continuity and crises preparedness plans for the Mission.
Deputizes for the Chief Medical Officer during his/her absence.
c. Supervisory Administration:
Manages day-to-day mission medical support operations by ensuring availability of medical supplies and proper functioning of medical equipment.
Ensures appropriate training programs are implemented in order to maintain and develop the medical capabilities (e.g. health education, HIV/AIDS prevention, Covid-19 prevention and vaccination first aid and CPR).
d. General:
• Performs other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Education: Currently registered to practice medicine in Sudan. Doctorate in Medicine (MD) or equivalent in medicine; residency in Family medicine, Internal Medicine or Emergency Medicine; qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of residency. Training and experience in Tropical Medicine, is highly desirable.
Work Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible clinical experience in one of the areas of medicine, is required. A minimum of three (3) years of progressive experience in clinical medicine, and medical administration is required. Experience in emergency medicine is desirable. Experience in the United Nations system or a comparable international organization is desirable. Experience in handling complex organizational issues at local and international level is desirable
Languages: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English and is required.

Assessment:
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include a written assessment followed by a competency-based interview.
