OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME
The objective of the program is for WHO to collaborate with the Government and relevant stakeholders within the framework of Country Cooperation Strategy (CCS) in significantly reducing burden related to malaria in Sudan as a public health emergency; it include prevention, control and elimination of malaria by providing strategic leadership, engaging in partnerships, resource mobilization and shaping the research agenda towards strengthening the capacity of the national program to reduce the disease burden.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
Under the overall guidance of the WHO Representative, in Sudan, and the direct supervision of the Team Leader Communicable Diseases Control the incumbent will be performing the following:
1.Provide support to the National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP) in planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluation of malaria prevention and control programme activities as outlined in the country plan of action;
2.Support the implementation of vector control activities such as LLIN, IRS and larval source management.
3.Update local information to inform vector control and identify challenges to its effectiveness such as insecticide resistance and residual parasite transmission.
4.Provide technical support to the states and localities in implementing programme activities including early diagnosis, prompt and effective treatment based on symptoms, locating treatment facilities and referring patients to those facilities, prevention through promotion, and increased awareness of community about malaria and other vector borne disease prevention and control;
5.Assist in the development of detailed work plan and initiate necessary actions for the implementation of various programme components;
6.Assist NMCP with the disease burden estimation, impact and progress measurement of national control strategies. The incumbent collaborates with all concerned government departments, cross-cutting programmes, bilateral and voluntary agencies to facilitate promotion of policies and exchange of information;
7.Coordinate with vector control sub directorate and related partners including technical working groups and expert committees for supporting entomology and vector control activities including monitoring insecticide resistance, integrated vector management and other malaria vector activities;
8.Contribute to the preparation of progress report for donor-funded projects, e.g. Global Fund;
9.Perform any other related duties as assigned by the supervisor or WHO Representative.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Essential: A university degree in a health science
Desirable: Masters in Public Health or relevant field
Experience
Essential: At least five years of relevant experience in disease control programs, with emphasis on the design, implementation, or evaluation of control or elimination of vector-borne diseases.
Desirable: Working experience with the WHO or other international experience would be an asset. A minimum of 3 years of working experience in malaria and large public health projects would be an asset. Experience of work in the field of vector control in humanitarian emergency situation.
Skills
•Knowledge of the country’s situation regarding Malaria and the national response.
•Adequate knowledge of Malaria, planning, and program design, including the setting of interventions.
•Ability to apply principles of epidemiologic surveillance and operational research, mainly on infectious diseases aiming vector-borne diseases.
•Adequate knowledge of Malaria technical issues, in particular planning for access to Malaria case management including procurement and supply management.
•Ability to develop good relationships with national and subnational partners to ensure the quality of collaborative response to Malaria in the country.
•Excellent communication, report writing, and analytical skills.

REMUNERATION
Remuneration comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 68,565 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable) and 30 days of annual leave.
