ZOA is an international non-governmental organisation with its Head Office in the Netherlands. ZOA has been working in Sudan since 2004. Its current focus is on post-conflict recovery and rehabilitation and ZOA operates programmes in North Darfur, East Darfur, South Darfur and Gedaref State, covering the sectors of food security and livelihoods & Economic Development, Integrated Water Resources Management and Education.

WASH Assistant for the Integrated Food Security & livelihood Support (IFSLS) Project:
PURPOSE of the POSITION:
The WASH Assistant (WA) will provide day-to-day support for project and Office operations to ensure smooth running of all WASH activities to ensure that they are well planned, timely implemented, and fulfil the technical, social, economic and environmental requirements / standards.
The position requires extensive and continuous communication and feedback with beneficiaries, partners, local authorities, concerned technical offices at locality and state levels.
The position will be for around 12 months, including 3 months’ probation period, subject for renewal, depending on performance and continuity of funding.
Duties and responsibilities:
The position holder will assist in the implementation of WASH activities and support the team in sanitation and hygiene promotion programming and coordinating with relevant institutions in this regard.
• Supports the  team to  monitor activities implemented by local partners at the field level.
• Assists the WASH Team to implement timely and quality activities in line with  technical guidelines, administrative systems, and implementation strategies.
• Supports evaluating relevance and appropriateness of current and future WASH and hygiene promotion interventions in the local context.
• Supports strategies and effort to mainstream gender, protection, disability and DRR in project and program activities.
• Support WASH Team  in the activity plan and monitoring and evaluation system for the project(s).
• Supports and Assist arranging and facilitating field visits, Â assessments, awareness – raising and educational activities, functions, events, etc., as appropriate.
• The WA will work with finance department to arrange logistics for project activities and draft correspondence to partners, NGOs and other agencies as requested.
• Assists in coordinating planning of meetings, workshops, sessions and ensures that all logistics arrangements are in place while ensuring that meeting notes are taken and disseminated timely to all participants.
• S/he will work closely with other project team members to ensure necessary project planning, resource availability and management activities function smoothly and efficiently.
• Works with partners to regularly assess the quality of the relationship, ensuring that effective communication channels are in place, and that any shortcomings are addressed.
• Assists in the development of monthly, quarterly and annual reports, as well as of human-interest stories, bulletins, factsheets, technical briefs, abstracts and other relevant publication related to the project interventions.
• Performs other duties assigned by the supervisor.
- AUTHORITY:
The WASH Assistant is accountable to Senior Water & WASH Engineer & Project Officer
CONTACTS:
External:
Community leaders, small farmer associations and networks, CBOs, CSOs, etc.
Local government, local partner, private sector, technical departments, etc.
Any other stakeholders in project implementation at community level.
Internal:
Project manager is the supervisor and coach.
Other project officers
Local partner staff in the localities.
Other project staff in the locality & in Gedaref and Kassala (as required).
Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:
COMPETENCIES:
• University Degree in Public Health, Environmental Health or similar disciplines.
• Minimum 3 years working experience in the field of WASH.
• Trained on PHH/ CLTS/CATS/ PHAST approaches.
• Training in gender and community mobilization will be an asset.
• Good computer literacy levels, with specific reference to MS Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
ATTIUDE/ SKILLS:
• Good written and spoken English and Arabi Skills.
• Good reporting and communication skills.
• Ability to work fast, meet deadlines and pay attention to details.
• Experience in cross-cultural settings would be an asset.
• Experience in dealing with sensitive topics and an appreciation for how these issues are dealt with in different cultural contexts.
• Knowledge of safe hygiene and sanitation practices.
• Decent ability to draft and edit official letters, travel requests, etc.
• Familiarity with Gedaref and Kassala state localities is a Plus
SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Gedaref with frequent trips to project localities in Gedaref and Kassala States.
The candidate will subject to Membercheck /COTER procedures, which is against Government Sanction lists to verify that the candidate is not on any of these lists. This counter-terrorism check is a requirement of Donor Government Regulations and is therefore an important part of an employee’s ability to fulfil his/her employment requirements before signing the Employment Contract with the Organization.

2. WE OFFER:
