Emergency Response Assistant (National Position) –Advertisement

NRC resumed operations in Sudan in 2020, providing humanitarian assistance, protection, and durable solutions. Our country programme integrates all of NRC’s six core competencies (camp management, education, ICLA, livelihoods, shelter, and WASH), and provides a rapid response capacity (including for the recent refugee emergency in eastern Sudan), and thematic capacities for cash and markets-based approaches, advocacy, digital modes of assistance, and co-leading various technical and strategic coordination platforms.
Role Specific Information
The purpose of the Emergency Response Assistant position is to carry out the day-to-day implementation of the NRC emergency response programme activities in Sudan. This includes the ECHO funded Rapid Response Mechanism project (RRM), emergency response and preparedness activities.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Ensure financial management of emergency response programme budgets in area of operation.
- Assist in the development of concept notes, proposals and periodical reports.
- Support the Emergency Response Team Leader in presenting the NRC emergency response programme to all stakeholders in area of operation.
- Actively participate in emergency assessment, distribution and monitoring and ensure coordination with relevant government and non-government actors.
- Responsible for the distribution of emergency commodities in the field, based on NRC’s emergency distribution guidelines.
- Acts as a link between NRC and beneficiary communities providing information on NRC’s activities, profile, mandate and distribution rules and procedures.
- Collect data and enter household emergency data on kobo and for early warning systems.
- Responsible for distribution site preparation, beneficiary communication and coordination.
- Assists the line manager in identifying eligible beneficiaries for assistance.
- Supervises and monitors cash for work and in-Kind interventions in the field.
- Assists the line manager in preparing assessment reports.
- Assists the line manager in preparing survey reports.
- Assists the line manager with all other Emergency response-related tasks as directed.
Our Ideal Candidate:
- Bachelor’s degree preferably in Social sciences, development studies or other relevant discipline.
- Minimum 1 year of experience working in same level of position or above.
- Experience in community mobilization and conducting distributions is an added advantage.
- Proven experience from working as a Project Officer in a humanitarian/emergency context
- Experience in emergency response working with UN or INGO or national NGO is an added advantage.
- Good working knowledge of English.
- Political and cultural awareness and experience of working where insecurity is a major issue.
- Excellent computer skills including good knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel.
- Solid field experience, preferably from refugee/IDP programmes.
- Proven communication, interpersonal and leadership skills
