The Norwegian Refugee Council has an interesting and rewarding opportunity to be part of our newest country of operation – Sudan.
The NRC has recently re-registered to operate in Sudan, and is currently in country start-up phase, conducting assessments and designing the first steps of the programme. Focus will be given to people displaced by conflict, refugees, and vulnerable migrants, and potential geographical areas of work will be Khartoum state, South Kordofan, Gadarif and Blue Nile on a first phase, with the idea to expand to other States.
As a priority, NRC is therefore hiring an Education Coordinator to be part of establishing NRC’s programme in Sudan.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Line management of Education project field staff
- Adherence to NRC policies, guidance and procedures and awareness of NRC global and regional strategies
- Contribute to national Education strategy development, project proposals and provide input on needs and gaps; consider where appropriate the role of cash-based interventions and market-based programmes
- Manage and implement delegated portfolio of Education projects (activities, budget and project documentation) as delegated from the PDM in line with proposals, strategies and donor requirements, and ensure high technical quality
- Provide regular progress reports to PDM
- Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need of protection, explore and asses new and better ways to assist
- Promote and share ideas for improvement and necessary changes in the activities
- Ensure capacity building of project staff and transfer key skills
- Liaise and collaborate with relevant local authorities and other key stakeholders
- Promote the rights of refugees, IDPs & returnees in line with the advocacy strategy
- Identify implementation opportunities for cash-based and market-based interventions
- Support staff to implement quality and timely programmes
- Contribute to creating an enabling environment for the implementation of cash-based interventions, working with support teams in the institutionalisation of cash
- Responsible for the implementation of strategic plans and the management of day-to-day project activities including staff, budget and assets in area of responsibility (AOR)
- Provide technical and logistics/operational support and oversight to project staff on youth programming and EiE programming, including budget management
- Plan, monitor and evaluate education activities in area of responsibility; ensure SOPs are in place and logistical and operational needs are met
- Provide leadership and support on the design and rollout of NRC’s programming
- Coordinate delegated portfolio of activities in line with proposals, strategies and donor requirements, ensuring high technical quality
- Promote the rights of refugees, IDPs, returnees and the host community in line with SPHERE and the INEE Minimum Standards
- Contribute to the development of project proposals, logframes, workplans and budgets
- Contribute to Education strategy development, as well as advocacy and emergency strategies and action plans; provide input on needs/gaps
- Representation and coordination in internal and external forums on behalf of NRC Education in AOR, including with the Cluster/Sector/WG and other active NGOs/UN agencies
- Liaise and collaborate with relevant government/local authorities and other key stakeholders
- Provide supervision, motivation, and support to the Education team, including recruitment, orientation, training, and performance management
- Ensure capacity building of project staff and the transfer of key skills; support capacity building of teachers and other education personnel
- Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly and final narrative reports, logframes, and Sector 5Ws
- Any other task relevant to the position as requested by the line and/or technical manager
Our ideal candidate:
- At least 4 years’ Experience working in an Education project implementation position in a humanitarian/ recovery context
- Previous experience working in complex and volatile contexts
- Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
- Solid computer skills, including MS Word, Outlook and Excel
- Ability to work diligently both independently and in a team setting
- Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile
- Willingness to travel regularly to the field in under-resourced settings
- Fluency in English and Arabic, both written and verbal required
- Preferable to be located in Alfasher
