Main purpose of job:

The British Embassy is seeking a dynamic Human Resources Officer to join their Human Resources Team, part of the Corporate Services in Khartoum. The HR Officer will be a core part of the Corporate Services Team, delivering Embassy wide HR Services and ensuring that HR Policies and Procedures are implemented.

Roles and responsibilities:     

  • Support recruitment in co-operation with the HR hub, being actively involved in advertising vacant positions and supporting the hiring process
  • Support with On and Off boarding of Country Based Staff
  • Manage induction material and plans for newly recruited staff
  • Advise on HR policies and procedures; monitor and respond to queries
  • Ensure implementation of Local Labour Laws
  • Prepare monthly payroll of FCDO Staff in alignment with the HR Hub
  • Manage Country Based Staff Pension Scheme
  • Track and manage Learning and Development plans
  • Manage the Medical Insurance Provider
  • Handle Disciplinary Actions
  • Manage Workplace Safety
  • Support in HR Reporting and documenting: for example recruitment headcount, retirement and personnel files
  • Provide admin support for the Head of Corporate Services
  • General HR admin: e.g. manage and update telephone directory and internal telephone list, manage stationary and prepare routine service letters and certificates
  • One off projects related to HR / wider corporate services, as needed

Essential qualifications, skills and experience  

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field and/or 2 years’ experience in HR management
  • Ability to use MS Office
  • Proven ability to exercise good judgement with little or no supervision
  • Experience working in a fast paced environment while delivering excellent customer service
  • Fluent in English and Arabic

Desirable qualifications, skills and experience  

  • Experience of working in an international environment
  • Knowledge of Sudanese labour law and social insurance regulations
  • Experience of working with Oracle databases

Working patterns:

0800-1600 Sunday to Wednesday and 0800-1430 on Thursday

Please note this is a 1 year fixed term position with possibility of permanent contract based on performance.
