DRC has been present in Sudan since 2004, delivering life-saving programming in protection, emergency response, shelter, food security and livelihoods, disaster risk reduction, camp management, and humanitarian mine action. DRC has implemented projects in Central Darfur, South Darfur, South Kordofan, Gedaref, Kassala, and Khartoum states. Sudan hosts one of the largest displaced populations in Africa, with over 3.7 million internally displaced people and over 1.1 million refugees from South Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Central African Republic, Chad, Yemen and Syria. Against a background of political crisis, Sudan faces economic and social turmoil, with sharp increases in food and energy costs, further exacerbated by disease outbreaks and ongoing conflict.

About the job

The Protection Assistant (Case Management) is responsible for providing case management services to individuals in need, including GBV survivors. and Psychosocial support services to individuals and groups .S/he will ensure complete support including identification of those at risk, provision of psychosocial support, referral for specialized services, and awareness-raising activities.

Duties and Responsibilities

Program

  • Ensure the delivery of case management in line with global SOPs and standards, including the interagency GBV case management guidelines.
  • Ensure the delivery of Individual and group PSS.
  • Effectively use and comply with all the tools, forms and SOPs related to case management as communicated by the Protection Manager. Comply with applicable professional standards related to protection and humanitarian interventions.
  • Operate in close alignment with referral pathways agreed at interagency level.
  • Coordinate closely with service providers to ensure survivors and individuals at risk of right violations are provided with high quality service provision (including medical assistance, mental health support and material assistance)
  • Ensure proper documentation of case data and information in line with the case management guiding principles, adhering to the confidentiality principle. Ensure to abide by all information-sharing protocols in place.
  • Ensure that individuals in need of protection services and/or assistance are timely and adequately referred to the relevant services. Conduct regular and systematized follow-up of all referred cases to ensure adequate service provision, reassess needs and potentially identify any new trends.
  • Conduct awareness and capacity-building activities with communities in safe and suitable locations.
  • Conduct any other programme activities related to the provision of protection services and assistance as instructed by the Protection Team Leader and the Protection Manager.
  • Mobilize and build strong rapport with communities, adhering to dignified, culturally sensitive approaches.

Monitoring and Reporting

  • Produce quality and accurate reports and supporting documentation on CM activities and ensure their timely submission to the Protection Officer (CM) and Protection Team Leader for review and internal information sharing.
  • Ensure that both the hard and soft copies of all activity reports and case management files are safely archived.
  • Overall, effectively use the tools and comply with the processes related to monitoring and reporting, including through the use of shared drive and dedicated platforms for information management. 

Representation and coordination

  • Represent DRC and the program towards a wide range of stakeholders including individual beneficiaries, community mobilizers, community-based structures’ members and focal points.
  • Ensure professional standards and transparent communication in the external representation of the organization so as to build trust and ensure effective collaboration with all concerned stakeholders.
  • Ensure that all interactions with individual beneficiaries take place in an environment and in a way that respect and promote the individuals’ safety, agency and dignity in accordance with professional standards for protection and humanitarian work.

Operations support

  • Support the coordination of program support activities as they relate to logistics, administration or security as relevant, under the guidance and supervision of the Protection Team Leader and in coordination with the relevant departments.  Comply with all relevant internal policies and directives.

Experience and technical competencies:

Required Minimum Experience and technical competencies:

  • 1-2 years of experience in case management, including GBV case management
  • Good knowledge of case management principles
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, respect, non-discrimination, safety and inclusion of GBV cases at all times
  • Excellent communication and psychosocial first aid skills
  • Good interpersonal and problem-solving skills, creativity and flexibility
  • Comfortable in a multi-cultural environment, flexible and able to handle pressure well
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Word and Excel)
  • Ability to work flexible hours in challenging environments
  • Previous experience in international organizations and humanitarian settings is a plus
  • Experience working with IDPs as well as refugees, particularly from South Sudan is desirable.

Education:

  • Bachelor in Social Work, Counseling, Law, Psychology or other related field

Languages:

  • Fluent in English (both oral and written)
  • Arabic

Contract length: 6 months

Level: Non-manager

Salary range: 826 – 895 USD

Location: White Nile -Kosti
