Peace and Security ClusterThe UNOPS Peace and Security Centre (PSC) is a principal service provider in the field of mine action with the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS), UNDP, UNICEF, Governments of mine-affected countries and other mine action partners. The Centre is responsible for administering, providing support and oversight of the day-to-day management of the Project Field offices, both according to the client requirements and in line with UNOPS rules and regulations. It is headed by the Centre Director who has the overall authority and accountability for the performance of the Peace and Security Centre on behalf of its clients.

Established in 1997 by the General Assembly, the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) serves as the United Nations focal point for mine action and supports its vision of “a world free of the threat of landmines and unexploded ordnance, where individuals and communities live in a safe environment conducive to development, and where mine survivors are fully integrated into their societies.”

UNMAS coordinates and collaborates with fourteen UN departments, agencies, programs and funds to ensure an effective, proactive and coordinated response to the problems of landmines and explosive remnants of war, including cluster munitions.

UNMAS establishes, manages, and provides strategic direction to mine-action coordination centers in countries and territories as part of peacekeeping operations and humanitarian emergencies or crises. In these situations, UNMAS may plan and carry out mine-action projects, support and coordinate the work of local and international mine-action service providers, and set priorities for mine clearance, mine-risk education and all other aspects of mine action.

The UNMAS Sudan office is based in Port Sudan and works closely with the Government of Sudan and international partners to reduce the impact of explosive hazards on the civilian population. UNMAS Sudan’s main activities include land release, risk education (RE) and victim assistance (VA) in areas affected by explosive ordnance. Currently, South Kordofan, Blue Nile and West Kordofan are affected by mines and ERW while 5 Darfur states are believed to contain ERW only.  UNMAS also provides technical advice and training for Sudan National Mine Action Centre (NMAC) and national mine action NGOs to improve national mine action capacity.

 Functional Responsibilities

Under the general supervision of the Support Service Senior Associate, the Driver provides reliable and safe driving services and clerical support ensuring high accuracy of work. The Driver demonstrates a client-oriented approach, a high sense of responsibility, courtesy, tact and the ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

 The Driver provides driving services to the staff in the office, Consultants and Experts and UNOPS staff on mission. The incumbent will also provide clerical support services inside and outside the office.

The incumbent of this post is responsible for the following duties:

  •  Ensures the provision of reliable and secure driving services by 

a) driving office vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel and delivery and collection of mail, documents and other items and

 b) meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport.

  • Ensures cost-savings through proper use of vehicle through accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, and provision of inputs for the preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports.
  • Ensures proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, and brakes, and ensuring that the vehicle is kept clean.
  • Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, waiver form, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, fuel logs and necessary spare parts.
  • Ensures that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accidents.
  • Keep accurate records of trips, mileage, and fuel consumption.
  • Coordinates with suppliers for generator maintenance, fueling, and servicing while ensuring compliance, record-keeping, and efficient collaboration with the logistics team.
  • Delivering mail and documents to UN agencies, embassies, and other organizations, as well as handling office documents for protocol clearance and assisting with clerical work.
  • Collects documents for the UNOPS-PSC office and expedites staff visa and customs formalities when necessary, while performing other administrative tasks as assigned.



  • Secondary Diploma (High School diploma or equivalent) is required with 2 years of relevant experience 
  • First-level university  (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) is desired
  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) is desired
  • A Technical Diploma in Automotive is desired


  • A minimum of two (2) years of working as a driver of civilian vehicles is required.
  • Experience and knowledge of local driving rules and regulations is required.
  • Experience in minor vehicle repair and maintenance is desired


  • A valid driver’s license type “General”  is required.

Language Requirement:

  • Fluency in writing, reading and oral English is required.
  • Fluency in writing, reading and oral Arabic is required.
