Our mission: HI is an independent and impartial aid organization working in situations of poverty and exclusion, conflict and disaster. We work alongside people with disabilities and vulnerable populations, taking action and bearing witness in order to respond to their essential needs, improve their living conditions and promote respect for their dignity and fundamental rights. 

HI works in around sixty countries in emergency, reconstruction, chronic crisis and development contexts. Founded in 1982 and a co-recipient of the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize, the organization has been working alongside vulnerable populations, in particular people with disabilities. Today, more than 4,500 people, including 3,500 national field staff and 300 international staff, work for HI in a wide range of contexts, implementing more than 400 projects in over 60 countries. 

Humanity & Inclusion in Sudan 

HI has initiated its programmatic response to the Sudan crisis in January 2024. Together with a Sudanese NGO, we provide physical and functional rehabilitation as well as mental health & psychosocial support in health centers and communities. HI is further leading disability inclusion mainstreaming at humanitarian coordination level. 

HI is scaling up its intervention in Sudan while expanding its programmatic and geographical scope, to respond to the catastrophic humanitarian crisis affecting Sudanese people. 

Role 

Responsible for preparing meals while maintaining high hygiene standards, minimizing food waste, and managing food and household supplies. Duties include stock control, purchasing, inventory management, monitoring food-related expenses, maintaining kitchen cleanliness and equipment safety, reporting maintenance issues, supporting special meal requests, and organizing large-scale social events when required. The role also involves conducting regular inventories and ensuring adequate supplies are always available.. 

Responsibilities 

• Prepare daily meals while adhering to strict food hygiene and safety standards and minimizing food waste through effective stock rotation.  
• Purchase, order, and manage food and non-food supplies, including cooking gas and other kitchen necessities.  
• Monitor and manage food-related expenses under the guidance of the supervisor.  
• Maintain adequate inventory levels of food and kitchen consumables at all times.  
• Ensure all kitchen equipment is safe, functional, and properly maintained for daily use.  
• Keep the kitchen, dining area, and food preparation spaces clean and sanitized after each use.  
• Apply and promote standard food handling, storage, and kitchen hygiene practices.  
• Support the planning and organization of large-scale social and catering events as required.  
• Maintain cleanliness of cupboards, refrigerators, stoves, ovens, microwaves, water filters, and other kitchen facilities.  
• Report equipment malfunctions, damages, and maintenance needs to the supervisor promptly.  
• Conduct monthly inventory counts of kitchen utensils and equipment, and recommend replacements when necessary.  
• Accommodate special dietary requirements and meal preferences with flexibility and professionalism. 

Qualifications:

Education:

High School Diploma

Experience :

2 years’ work experience in a similar field of activity. 

Skills:

Knows and applies kitchen/cooking hygiene principles. 

Proficiency in Planning and Organizing, Supply Planning 

Language:

Arabic and Basic English proficiency.
