Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission and the direct supervision of the Media and
Communications Officer, the successful candidate will be responsible to support the creation of
content, including audio, visual and written, for external communications, including digital
platforms and social media. The position will focus on promoting IOM’s work in crisis response
throughout Sudan through Arabic and English media and communication channels.

  1. Draft and disseminate public information on IOM’s work in Sudan, including audio, visual,
    written, and verbal. This includes capturing photos, video recordings and editing high
    quality images and video clips highlighting the context in which IOM works, as well as its
    activities.
  2. Facilitate and conduct interviews with beneficiaries and other persons relevant to IOM’s
    communications.
  3. Maintain and catalogue IOM’s communications products, media contact lists, content
    calendars, and archives.
  4. Support creation and maintenance of digital and other content for IOM’s various platforms,
    including social media and websites.
  5. Organize public events to promote the visibility of IOM’s operations in Sudan.
  6. Support the collection and production of Human Interest stories, photographs and video
    clips for projects and partners.
  7. Support the public relations component of IOM projects including monitoring project
    visibility plans in line with donors’ visibility requirements and IOM branding guidelines.
  8. Assist to manage the production and distribution of communications materials/tools such
    as publications, stickers, posters, t-shirts together with IOM’s partners.
  9. Draft social media posts, media statements and securing clearances, working in
    conjunction with relevant focal points and keeping sensitive to needs of both internal and
    external audience
  10. Routine capacity building, mentorship and coaching for Implementing Partners to improve
    quality of visual documentation such as pictures, videos etc.
  11. Provide accurate and context-sensitive translations of media content, including but not
    limited to video interviews, social media posts, articles, and stories, from Arabic to English
    and vice versa.
  12. Perform such other duties as may be assigned

Required Qualifications and Experience


Education

  • Completed university degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Film Making
    or a related field from an accredited academic institution with three years of relevant
    professional experience; or
  • High school degree in the above fields from an accredited academic institution with
    minimum five years of relevant professional experience.

Experience

  • Experience in digital communications, specifically social media, ability to draft and create
    high-quality content
  • Experience working in communications around crisis or humanitarian actions and previous
    experience with UN or other humanitarian agencies a strong advantage
  • Experience of working with sensitivities related to gender, and working with vulnerable
    populations

Languages
Fluency in English and Arabic is required
