POSITION OVERVIEW

The Driver will play a critical role in supporting the transportation needs of MedGlobal, The driver will be responsible for the safe and timely transportation of staff, volunteers, equipment, and supplies to various locations within the operational area. The driver will also assist in vehicle maintenance, ensure compliance with road safety regulations, and contribute to the smooth functioning of program activities.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Safe Transportation:
    • Safely operate organization vehicles, adhering to traffic rules, regulations, and security guidelines.
    • Transport staff, volunteers, and other authorized personnel to designated locations, ensuring their safety and comfort.
    • Transport equipment, supplies, and materials to project sites and healthcare facilities as required.
    • Plan and follow the most efficient routes to minimize travel time and fuel consumption.
    • Maintain a proactive approach to road safety, anticipating and mitigating risks during transportation.
  • Vehicle Maintenance and Management:
    • Conduct regular vehicle inspections to ensure roadworthiness and compliance with safety standards.
    • Perform routine maintenance checks, such as oil changes, fluid levels, tire pressure, and brake inspections.
    • Coordinate with the logistics team to schedule vehicle repairs, servicing, and inspections.
    • Keep accurate records of vehicle maintenance, repairs, mileage, fuel consumption, and other relevant information.
    • Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of vehicles, both inside and outside.
  • Logistics Support:
    • Assist in loading and unloading equipment, supplies, and materials, ensuring proper handling and secure storage.
    • Support the logistics team in receiving and documenting incoming shipments.
    • Assist in the distribution and collection of program materials, including educational materials, medical supplies, and equipment.
    • Collaborate with the logistics team to ensure accurate inventory records and stock control.
  • Security and Emergency Preparedness:
    • Stay updated on security guidelines and adhere to protocols to ensure the safety of passengers and assets during travel.
    • Report any security incidents, accidents, or near misses to the appropriate personnel.
    • Be prepared to respond to emergencies, including providing first aid or seeking assistance as required.
    • Carry out vehicle safety checks, including emergency kits, spare tires, and communication devices.
  • Communication and Collaboration:
    • Maintain effective and professional communication with staff, volunteers, and stakeholders during transportation.
    • Collaborate with the logistics team to coordinate vehicle schedules and prioritize transportation needs.
    • Assist in the orientation and training of new staff or volunteers on vehicle safety procedures.
    • Provide feedback and suggestions to improve transportation services and operations.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualification

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Additional certification in defensive driving or vehicle maintenance is desirable.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Proven experience as a driver, preferably in a humanitarian or non-profit organization.
  • Familiarity with Sudanese road regulations and safety standards.
  • Knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to drive in various terrains and weather conditions.
  • Good knowledge of the local geography and routes within the operational area.
  • Excellent driving skills, with a focus on safety and defensive driving techniques.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and multicultural environment.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work outside regular working hours if required.
  • Physical ability to perform manual tasks, such as lifting and loading/unloading supplies.
  • Fluency in Arabic. Knowledge of English is desirable.
  • Must be Sudanese Nationality.
