MSF‑Swiss is launching a pool recruitment for the position of Medical Doctor

This recruitment aims to identify and pre‑validate qualified medical professionals who can be rapidly mobilized when operational needs arise, including emergencies. Successful candidates will be placed in a MSF-Swiss pool and will not receive an employment contract at this time. Contract offers will be made only when a specific position becomes available, based on project needs. Interested applicants may find the detailed job description of this position below.

Provide outpatient and/or inpatient medical care to patients/beneficiaries according to adapted and updated medical knowledge, MSF protocols, values, and universal hygiene standards to improve the patients/beneficiaries’ health conditions.

  • Apply medical knowledge and skills to diagnose and prevent. Carry out outpatient and inpatient consultations, prescribing the necessary treatment, respecting MSF protocols. 
  • Keep the patient and/or his/her family informed about the illness and provide appropriate explanations about the treatment to follow, checking they have understood. 
  • Follow up the evolution of the hospitalised/IDP patients, through daily visits, consultations and examinations, prescribing the necessary treatment following MSF protocols, deciding whether they can be discharged or transferred to other departments – in collaboration with other doctors- and informing their family about the patient’s evolution. 
  • Check and control the rational distribution of medicines and equipment under his/her responsibility and take care of the quality, disinfection and sterilisation of the medical material. Assure general compliance with standing hygiene standards. 
  • Participate in the collection and analysis of epidemiological data, checking its validity and informing the line manager or project coordinator about any problem or complication of the patient’s illness, medical error and monitoring the proper functioning of the department, equipment or material. 
  • Ensure ongoing training of the medical/paramedical multidisciplinary team in order to optimise the quality of care. 
  • Knows and ensures all MSF medical protocols are followed and implemented, checking universal precautions are followed at all times and reducing bio-hazard risks and improving infection control. Ensures professional confidentiality is respected.
  • Manage the team under his/her direct responsibility according to MSF HR policies and procedures, supervising their performance, organising and scheduling shifts and rotations, and directly participating in emergencies and on calls if necessary.

Context Specific Responsibilities 

Emergency Response & Outbreak Management

  • Participate in emergency responses (outbreaks, mass casualties, disasters).
  • Ensure rapid implementation of MSF/MoH protocols during outbreaks.
  • Ensure early detection and immediate reporting of epidemic-prone diseases.
  • Support preparedness activities (pre-positioning, simulations, training).

Clinical Care Delivery

  • Provide outpatient and inpatient care in supported health facilities.
  • Carry out daily ward rounds in the assigned ward, update diagnoses according to new findings and adapt the treatment plan.
  • Ensure adherence to MSF and MoH treatment protocols.
  • Maintain rational prescription practices.
  • Adapt to fluctuating patient loads and evolving humanitarian needs.

Documentation and medical records

  • Ensure accurate, complete, and timely documentation of all patient records (OPD, IPD, emergency cases).
  • Maintain proper recording of diagnoses, treatments, and outcomes according to MSF/MoH standards.
  • Ensure proper completion of mortality & referral line lists, surveillance forms and line lists for notifiable diseases.
  • Contribute to medical reporting (daily, weekly, and monthly reports).

Surveillance, Monitoring & Reporting

  • Monitor morbidity and mortality trends in hospitals and PHCCs.
  • Escalate alerts to the Medical Activity Manager.
  • Support data validation and interpretation for decision-making.
  • Report stock ruptures, risks, and unusual consumption patterns.

Pharmacy & Supply Management

  • Monitor consumption of essential drugs, especially during outbreaks.
  • Ensure timely reporting of stock issues and risks.
  • Participate in prescription analysis. 

Infection Prevention & Control (IPC)

  • Ensure implementation of IPC measures in hospitals and PHCCs.
  • Strengthening IPC during outbreaks and high-risk situations.

Capacity Building & Training

  • Provide on-the-job training and mentorship to MoH staff.
  • Conduct coaching, organise training, mortality reviews, and case discussions to improve the quality of care.

Community Engagement & Health Promotion (HPCE)

  • Collaborate with HPCE teams on community awareness activities, if needed.
  • Promote early care-seeking behaviour.
  • Deliver health education to patients and caregivers.

Coordination, Collaboration & Leadership

  • Collaborate with MSF multidisciplinary teams.
  • Efficient and Professional communication with nurses, clinical assistants, Nutrition Assistants, and Hygiene Agents.
  • Efficient and respectful communication with patients and their caretakers
  • Fully responsible for the patient care and outcome.
  • Participate in medical meetings, briefings, and debriefings.
  • Ensure proper handover and communication between shifts and facilities.

Referral System & Continuity of Care

  • Support continuity of care between facilities of different levels of care (outreach, PHCCs and hospital).
  • Strengthen referral and feedback systems.

Flexibility & Additional Responsibilities

  • Remain flexible to support different service points.
  • Perform additional related tasks as requested by MAM and PMR.

Education: 

  • A medical doctor’s diploma is essential
  • Desirable diploma in Tropical Medicine.

Experience: 

  • Essential 2 years’ experience minimum as a Medical Doctor or in clinical work (can be within medical training).. 
  • Desirable in tropical medicine, or post-registration experience in Public Health, obs and gynae, paediatrics, A&E, infectious diseases, HIV/AIDS/STDs, TB, general practice, general medicine or minor surgery. 

Language: 

  • Fluent in spoken and written Arabic and English

Knowledge: 

  • Essential computer literacy (Word, Excel)
  • Complete CV, detailing the applicant’s education and professional experience
