Supporting the Water, Hygiene, and Sanitation (Watsan) Manager in the implementation and supervision of Watsan activities, including tools and materials employed according to MSF standards and protocols, to improve the health and living conditions of the target population.

  • Ensuring the day-to-day implementation and administration of assigned Watsan activities at the project level, including but not limited to,  water supply, excreta disposal, waste management, vector control, and dead bodies management
  • Ensuring that the MSF procedures and protocols are followed by the Watsan teams to guarantee the operational quality of the project;
  • Ensuring the maintenance and repair of technical equipment in the project to guarantee an adequate running of Watsan activities;
  • Ensuring the distribution of the materials and tools used in water treatment, hygiene, and sanitation (e.g. physical organization and inventory of stocks, receiving and processing orders for water, sanitation, and hygiene material, checking that the amounts received are recorded, and checking monthly consumptions, etc.);
  • Supporting the Watsan Manager in ensuring an appropriate emergency preparedness and response capacity (physical verification of stocks, contacts, transport means, staff training). Ensuring appropriate assistance to the project response team and if required, participating in emergency activities or exploratory visits
  • Supporting the Watsan Manager in team planning (e.g. staff rosters and admin, HR processes, etc.) informing and involving the Watsan Manager in case of any major management or technical issue, and providing all required reporting
  • Planning and supervising the HR processes (recruitment, training, performance evaluation, task definition, and internal and external communication) of the staff under his/her responsibility to ensure both the sizing and the amount of knowledge required for the activity

  • MSF Section/Context-Specific Accountabilities 

In June 2023, MSF began working with Al Nao Hospital, providing support to the Emergency Room and chronic disease clinic, and with Al Saudi Hospital, ensuring access to comprehensive SGBV care. 

MSF aims to ensure that the water and sanitation facilities are functioning and well maintained in Al Nao and Al Saudi Hospitals, according to MSF Essential WatSan Needs in Healthcare Settings. MSF also aims to advocate for full functionality at the Al Manara Water Station, which provides about 80% of the total water in Omdurman. 

As the WatSan Supervisor, your main tasks will be:

  • Ensuring water to Al Nao and Al Saudi Hospitals is of sufficient quality and quantity
  • Maintenance of water systems (dosing pumps, water pumps, water tanks, pipe network, plumbing)
  • Ensuring sufficient IPC supplies and support to the MoH IPC Officer 
  • Ensuring desludging is happening promptly and all toilets are properly maintained
  • Managing the waste zone and ensuring appropriate waste segregation
  • Consistent monitoring of water production from Al Manara Water Station and the overall WASH situation of civilians in Omdurman
  • Collecting, analyzing, and sharing WASH data, as appropriate

MSF may respond to future and unknown emergencies throughout Sudan. In 2023, MSF-Holland worked in the following states: Red Sea, Kassala, Gedaref, and South Darfur. MSF oftentimes requests that project staff relocate for temporary periods to support emergency-style interventions.

  1. As the WatSan Supervisor, you may travel to support MSF emergency interventions across Sudan when required. The activities could involve WatSan interventions in healthcare facilities, refugee camps, IDP gathering points, cholera treatment centers, and others.

Minimum Qualification, Skills, and Experience Required:

EducationTechnical diploma, desirable specialization in water and sanitation
ExperienceEssential, knowledge of Excel for data management and analysis
Desirable, knowledge of DHIS2 or other electronic health data system.
Desirable, use of epidemiology-related analytical software (Epi-info, R, etc)
