Under the supervision of the Operation Director, the Field Manager is responsible in the management of MTI field operations in White Nile state. He/she ensures a smooth operational support to the successful implementation of MTI programs in accordance with contractual requirements and expected technical & programmatic quality standards. He/she ensures that the field operations are operationally functional. The Field Manager will help provide directions to the Field Site and ensure resources are effectively managed to ensure optimal programming.

Operations (Supply Chain, IT and HR)

  • Organize grant review meetings at field sites, sharing support needs with the operations and program teams in Khartoum.
  • Ensure that the supply chain functions are effectively implemented at the field level, including procurement, stock and asset management, vehicle operations, equipment maintenance and repair (including communications and computer equipment).
  • Ensure compliance with donor requirements, and at the same time understanding and adherence to MTI SOPs in procurement.
  • Ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with MTI policies and procedures.

Finance and Budget Monitoring

  • Support budget monitoring in White Nile, ensuring a healthy burn rate in line with work plans and agreed deliverables.
  • Support in ensuring that expenditures are in line with MTI and donor compliance regulations, eliminating disallowable expenditures and spreading costs strategically across a portfolio of funds.
  • Conduct monthly Budget vs. Actual reviews with program and support staff, ensuring that relevant action is taken in a timely fashion.
  • Inform the Country Director of changing budget needs and participate in budget development and revision processes.
  • Ensure that key support needs for the field site are budgeted in new proposals.

Strategy, resourcing, accountability, and reporting

  • Maintain good relations with donors present at the field level, developing funding opportunities for program growth and sustainability.
  • Support the Country Director, ensure the functioning of feedback register to ensure timely and effective responses, adapting programming where appropriate.
  • Submit timely and accurate reports, review and collate programs, finance and logistics reports to ensure accuracy before sharing with the Field Coordinator.
  • Support the Country Director in ensuring punctual delivery of donor reports, taking care to ensure monitoring systems report accurately against deliverables.

Coordination / External Representation

  • Ensure that MTI is well represented to the Local authorities particularly HAC, COR and MOH, UN agencies, international organizations, NGOs, donors, and other stakeholders at the field level.
  • Support in enhancing collaboration, networking and maintaining of good relations contributing to a safe and productive operating environment.

Staff Management

  • With guidance of the Opreation Director, supervise and manage performance of specific operations staff, facilitate setting of annual objectives and monitoring performance against set targets, conducting timely performance evaluations, and taking corrective action as and when required.
  • Work with staff to identify training needs, providing coaching, and mentoring as required.
  • Provide vision, leadership, and direction for staff, contributing to a safe, respectful, and dynamic working culture.

Other Duties:

  • Support safeguarding of program participants and employees through promoting an environment of awareness and upholding the code of conduct provisions of Medical Teams Protection from Sexual Exploitation & Abuse, Child & Vulnerable Adult protection, and harassment-free workplace policies

Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Qualification & Experience                                                                                                                    

  • Degree in any of Public Health or its equivalent
  • Dedication to the mission of Medical Teams International.
  • Excellent English Language Skills (Written, Spoken).
  • Possess excellent leadership, interpersonal and strong negotiation skills.
  • At least 3-5 years of working experience in management,
  • Demonstrated success as a team lead in the previous experience.
  • Broad knowledge and experience in operations management at field level.
  • Good knowledge of project management and an understanding of the humanitarian context programming is a plus.
  • Strong collaborator and influencer with effective interpersonal and analytical skills who can work seamlessly across cultures, and organizational units.
  • Able to work effectively in a highly matrixed structure, multi-task, prioritize and make decisions.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively with high level of attention to details.
  • Very good interpersonal skills and team player.
  • Excellent diplomatic communication and representation skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to learn new processes and systems.

Physical requirements:

  • Frequent communication and exchange of information among colleagues and persons of concern which requires the ability to speak, hear, convey and express oneself.
  • Frequent close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Occasionally ascends/descends stairs, steps, or ladder.
  • Occasionally move about inside an office to access file cabinets, office machinery, meet with colleagues, etc.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
  • Seldom to occasionally positions self to Stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • If in travel status, occasional to frequent traversing over rough or steep terrain in either a motor vehicle or on foot.
