Medical Teams International is looking for a qualified person to fill the position of Psychologist. This position is crucial for providing essential mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) services to refugees and other displaced populations residing in camps and utilizing health facilities. The Psychologist will play a vital role in assessing mental health needs, providing individual and group counseling, conducting psychosocial interventions, and contributing to the overall well-being of vulnerable individuals and communities.
Duties and responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities:
- MHPSS Service Delivery:
- Provide direct clinical MHPSS services, including individual and group counseling, to individuals with mental health conditions, survivors of violence, and other vulnerable populations.
- Conduct psychosocial assessments and develop individualized care plans.
- Provide psychoeducation and support to families and caregivers of individuals with mental health challenges.
- Integrate MHPSS services into primary healthcare, focusing on SGBV/IPV, Clinical Management of Rape (CMR), and MhGAP (Mental Health Gap Action Program) services.
Capacity Building:
- Train and mentor local psychologists (CPWs) community health workers, and other relevant staff on MHPSS assessment, intervention techniques (e.g., psychosocial support, basic counseling, brief interventions), and case management.
- Develop and facilitate training materials and resources.
- Supervise and provide technical support to MHPSS staff in their daily work.
Clinical Services:
- Provide individual and group counseling sessions to refugees experiencing a range of mental health challenges, such as trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, and loss.
- Conduct psychosocial assessments and interventions with children, adolescents, and families.
- Provide crisis intervention and support to individuals experiencing acute mental health emergencies.
- Collaborate with other health professionals, such as doctors, nurses, and social workers, to ensure integrated care.
Data Collection and Reporting:
- Collect and analyze data on MHPSS activities, including client demographics, service utilization, and outcomes.
- Prepare regular reports on MHPSS program activities, including case notes, statistical data, and success stories.
- Contribute to the development of program evaluations and research studies.
Community Engagement:
- Build strong relationships with community leaders, elders, and other key stakeholders.
- Facilitate community-based support groups and activities.
- Promote mental health awareness and stigma reduction within the refugee community.
Other Duties as Assigned:
- Participate in relevant meetings and workshops.
- Contribute to the development of proposals and reports for funding agencies.
- Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures, including ethical guidelines for mental health practice.
Safeguarding
- Ensure the Safeguarding of program participants and employees through promoting an environment of awareness and upholding the code of conduct provisions of Medical Teams Protection from Sexual Exploitation & Abuse, Child & Vulnerable Adult protection, and harassment-free workplace policies.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology, Social Protection, Mental Health, Psychiatry, or related field.
- Master’s degree in Mental Health or MPH, Psychiatry is added advantage.
EXPERIENCE
- At least three years of experience in providing MHPSS services to refugees, displaced populations, or other vulnerable groups.
- Experience working in challenging and resource-constrained environments.
- Strong clinical skills in individual and group counseling, trauma-informed care, and crisis intervention.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and cross-cultural communication skills.
- Proficiency in [List relevant languages, e.g., English, Arabic, French].
- Strong ethical and professional conduct.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Commitment to humanitarian principles and respect for diversity.
