The Senor MHPSS Officer with technical support from the Health Advisor, shall help the Health & Nutrition Coordinator in implementing project activities, particularly MHPSS component that will include building the capacity of  the Health team, psychologists, community health/psychosocial workers and direct services for individuals with mental health problems providing basic counselling and other interventions. The MTI health project in White Nile is currently focused on provision of Comprehensive primary health services to refugees, IDPs and immediate host communities. MHPSS component is going to be strongly integrated with focus on SGBV/IPV/ Clincal Management of Rape cases, MHPSS and community-based mechanisms for mobilization, awareness raising and engagements as well as provision of MhGAP services. The Officer will be working in the conflict and emergency affected communities, through psychologists, to directly identify individuals who are vulnerable, victims, survivors or patients in need of MHPSS care. He/she will also support community-based PSS initiatives like TSFP, OTP among others

The incumbent of this position represents MTI during MHPSS coordination platforms, and provides quality management and leadership development, introducing systems and procedures to strengthen staff motivation and productivity. 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership and oversight of the MHPSS programing and integration in all MTI – activities in White Nile Project.
  • Ensure the timely rollout of MHPSS activities, overseeing project planning, implementation, monitoring, and troubleshooting in the area of responsibility with the support of H/N Coordinator.
  • Support the design and implementation of MHPSS assessments, analyse problems/gaps, and propose/prioritize timely programmatic responses to mental health and psychosocial issues identified.
  •  Support the development of MHPSS SOPs and data collection tools in within the scope of the project.
  • Apply MHPSS programme and case management standard operating procedures (SoPs)to strengthen’.
  • Plan and support the recruitment, training, supervision  of MHPSS staff & other health workers.
  • Support the development of strategies that strengthen the MHPSS interventions
  • In coordination with MTI MEAL Officer, HIS Officers, Health Officer, Nutrition Officer etc, develop and maintain mechanisms for the timely generation of statistical data on MHPSS services, trends, and activities.
  • Represent MTI at MHPSS working group meetings and other relevant fora, developing partnerships with governmental and non-governmental stakeholders eg UNHCR, UNICEF etc to ensure strong coordination,.
  • Assist the MHPSS the Health & Nutrition Coordinator to prepare project proposals, narrative and progress, reports, and other relevant documentation, to ensure the MHPSS components are well capatured.  
  • Ensure gender and protection mainstreaming within all project activities.

     

Safeguarding

  • Ensure the Safeguarding of program participants and employees through promoting an environment of awareness and upholding the code of conduct provisions of Medical Teams Protection from Sexual Exploitation & Abuse, Child & Vulnerable Adult protection, and harassment-free workplace policies.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

EDUCATION, LICENSES, & CERTIFICATIONS                                                                                          

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, Social Protection, Mental Health, Psychiatry, or related field.
  • Master’s degree in Mental Health or MPH, Psychiatry is added advantage.

EXPERIENCE                                                                                                                                                     

  • Experience with vulnerable groups, preferably refugee and migrant populations will be an asset.
  • 3+ years of experience in mental health, family, and child counselling; and experience in gender-based violence and psychological trauma is an asset.
  • MhGAp experience is an asset.
  • Experience in mental health programming in in a humanitarian or development program context.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, including excellent internal consultation and liaison skills; facilitation and coaching skills.
