The Area Support Manager actively contributes to the Darfur Sudan Response Area Office strategy. The purpose of the Area Support Manager is to coordinate the support functions of the Area Office and relevant Field Offices in Darfur states. As a member of the senior management team, the Support Manager shares the responsibility to establish and maintain work systems that ensure maximum impact for people affected by the conflict.

Key objectives for this role include:

  1. Line management for support staff such as Finance, HR & Admin and Logistics/ICT.
  2. Member of the Area Management Team.
  3. Compliance with and adherence to NRC policies, guidance and handbooks and donor/auditor requirements.
  4. Provide input on operational support to the Area Plan of Action, and to coordinate and align operational support with programme plans at area level.
  5. Responsible for ensuring quality support to project implementation.

Specific Responsibilities:

Strategic Resource Management

  1. Contribute to the strategic direction of the area office for an efficient structure
  2. Ensure adequate and fit-for-purpose support strategy rooted in national staff capacity development

Compliance and Internal Control

  1. Ensure that all rules, regulations, routines, procedures, SOPs are accessible to and known by all staff. 
  2. Perform regular spot-checks on supporting documentation to identify areas of improvement in regards of quality of documentation.

Systems and Procedures

  1. Ensure that all rules, regulations, routines, procedures, SOPs are available, accessible to and known by all staff.

Responsible for ensuring that HR, finance, logistics and administration systems provide relevant and adequate support to the area office’s programmes throughout the whole project cycle

  1. With the Area Manager, ensure that the area office’ work processes are in place, understood by all staff, and carefully followed.

Emergency Response 

1.   Provide support to the Area Emergency response programme ensuring that support functions are working well to ensure the success of the response. 

2.    Work with programme functions to ensure the reconciliation of all distributions with the  reconciliation of deliverables. 

Other

1. When requested by the Area Manager, represent NRC externally in different fora

2. Act as Area Manager when appointed

Generic professional competencies: 

  • Minimum 5 years in middle management position in humanitarian/recovery context.
  • Previous experience working in a Finance, Logistics, HR managerial position (or at least one of them).
  • Solid knowledge of HR, finance and logistics routines in a humanitarian context.
  • Previous experience from working in complex contexts.
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal.

Context/ Specific skills, knowledge and experience: 

  • Experience of remote management.
  • Experience of partnership an asset.
  • Experience in large scale support systems management.
  • Experience managing large teams and offices.
  • Duty station: Geneina, Darfur – SUDAN
  • Salary/benefits: grade 8 on NRC’s salary scale. 
  • Duration of Contract:  12 Months (With possibility of extension)
