NRC resumed operations in Sudan in 2020, providing humanitarian assistance, protection, and durable solutions. Our country programme integrates all of NRC’s six core competencies (camp management, education, ICLA, livelihoods, shelter, and WASH), and provides a rapid response capacity (including for the recent refugee emergency in eastern Sudan), and thematic capacities for cash and markets-based approaches, advocacy, digital modes of assistance, and co-leading various technical and strategic coordination platforms.

Role Specific Information

The following is a brief description of the role.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Ensure adherence to NRC Financial Handbook and other NRC policies, tools and guidelines
  2. Prepare monthly financial reports and send all relevant documents to Country Office 
  3. Develop or provide inputs to other finance reports, as required by management
  4. Support and Implement NRC’s financial systems and procedures at Area level
  5. Support line managers in providing finance training to staff
  6. When relevant, supervise, train and develop financial staff
  7. Support implementation and adherence to the Anti-Corruption Policy
  8. Implement delegated support function [Finance] according to Area Action Plan 

Accounts and Banking:

  • Ensure sufficient cash in bank accounts and cash boxes
  • Prepare bank accounts and cashbox reconciliations 
  • Prepare and compile monthly Cash Forecast/ Cash Request
  • Weekly cash counts, post-back and other financial reporting to Country Office, Khartoum
  • Ensure financial internal controls are in place related to cash and bank 
  • Ensure timely payment of staff salaries, contractors, suppliers and other expenditures
  • Keep track and record all cash advances and ensure that all advances are accounted for within the guidelines 

Budget & Reporting:

  • Post entries on daily basis into Agresso. Make sure that the data has correct codes as per  project documents and are signed according to Authorization Table
  • Ensure proper scanning and filing of financial documents in accordance with Securing Supporting Documentation (SDD) guidelines 
  • Enter Agresso re-bookings when relevant 
  • Contribute to financial reports if requested by Country Office Finance Manager or Country Office senior staff
  • Participate in Area Management Group (AMG) meetings and report on any finance/budget issues   
  • Support Area Manager, if requested regarding inputs to Master Budget and new donor budgets and revision of existing donor budgets
  • Train staff on Agresso and Excel tools and support project teams to understand financial requirements and provide trainings as required 
  • Verify that vouchers and supporting documents meet NRC standards before payment
  • Proper close of projects and year-end close
  • Support Area Manager if requested related to audits and responses to auditors
  • Carry out any other tasks assigned by Area Manager or Support Coordinator.

Our Ideal Candidate:

  • At least 2 years experience working as a Finance Officer in a humanitarian/recovery context preferred
  • Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
  • Knowledge about keeping bank accounts and record keeping 
  • Very good English and fluency in Arabic, written and spoken
