NRC resumed operations in Sudan in 2020, providing humanitarian assistance, protection, and durable solutions. Our country programme integrates all of NRC’s six core competencies (camp management, education, ICLA, livelihoods, shelter, and WASH), and provides a rapid response capacity (including for the recent refugee emergency in eastern Sudan), and thematic capacities for cash and markets-based approaches, advocacy, digital modes of assistance, and co-leading various technical and strategic coordination platforms.

Role Specific Information

The following is a brief description of the role.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Participate in needs assessments, baseline studies and periodic studies, and feedback findings to the stakeholders.
  2. Collate data from the IDP’s camps and prepare regular reports on activities and WASH conditions for monitoring.
  3. Liaise with community leaders and other sectors and agencies working locally in order to coordinate activities within the WASH sector and between sectors such as health and shelter.
  4. Preparation of field reports, checklists and data collection tools.
  5. Supervise the construction and rehabilitation of latrines, drainage and other relevant Sanitation facilities ensuring that the constructions are of the highest quality and as per specified technical drawings.
  6. Promote safe WASH practices, including appropriate use and maintenance of WASH facilities and services specifically Latrines and Hand washing facilities.
  7. Prepare material estimates for construction and repair of WASH facilities with support from Officers and project coordinator.
  8. Carry out informal and formal training sessions (according to identified needs) and evaluate the impacts of this training.
  9. To carry out community mobilization of all WASH activities.
  10. Enable effective dialogue with the affected community to allow the agency to be held to account for the quality of the WASH programme.
  11. Identify needs for non-food items relevant to hygiene; participate in the choice of items, targeting strategy, promotion of effective use, and post-distribution monitoring.
  12. Manage incentive workers (Hygiene Supervisors and Promoters) including performance appraisal with guidance of the WASH Officer.
  13. Ensure the maintenance and proper care of all the tools and equipment used in the construction of WASH facilities
  14. Supervise sanitation activities in line with relevant standards, codes of conduct, and humanitarian principles.
