The Norwegian Refugee Council has an interesting and rewarding opportunity to be part of our newest country of operation – Sudan.
The NRC has recently re-registered to operate in Sudan, and is currently in the country start-up phase, conducting assessments and designing the first steps of the program. The focus will be given to people displaced by conflict, refugees, and vulnerable migrants, and potential geographical areas of work will be Khartoum state, South Kordofan, and the Blue Nile on a first phase, with the idea to expand to other States. 

As a priority, NRC is therefore hiring a Logistics Officer to be part of establishing NRC’s program in Sudan.

WASH/Shelter Coordinator Sudan Geneina (National Position)

NRC resumed operations in Sudan in 2020, providing humanitarian assistance, protection, and durable solutions. Our country programme integrates all of NRC’s six core competencies (camp management, education, ICLA, livelihoods, shelter, and WASH), and provides a rapid response capacity (including for the recent refugee emergency in eastern Sudan), and thematic capacities for cash and markets-based approaches, advocacy, digital modes of assistance, and co-leading various technical and strategic coordination platforms.

The purpose of the WASH/Shelter Coordinator is to run the day-to-day support functions at a field office.

The following is a brief description of the role.

Generic responsibilities (max 10)

  1. Line management for project staff
  2. Adherence to NRC policies, guidance and procedures
  3. Coordinate and manage project implementation (activities, budget and project documentation) in line with proposals, strategies and donor requirements
  4. Implement technical direction and ensure high technical quality of project
  5. Contribute to the development of Area and Core Competency (CC) strategies, initiate and participate in the development of relevant CC projects
  6. Provide regular progress reports to the Area Manager and PDM’s                            
  7. Ensure that project targets beneficiaries most in need of protection, explore and assess new and better ways to assist
  8. Develop and manage project budget and coordinate across CCs
  9. Ensure capacity building of project staff and transfer key skills
  10. Liaise and collaborate with relevant local authorities and other key stakeholders
  11. Promote the rights of refugees in line with the advocacy strategy

Our Ideal Candidate:

We are looking for a university graduate of engineering, architecture, construction management, WASH related field or equivalent with a minimum of five years’ previous experience in the field. 

Experience working in complex and volatile contexts, in particular in Sudan.  Technical management expertise relevant to the role. Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities. Fluency in English and Arabic both written and verbal.

We are particularly looking for a positive individual with strong communication skills, who can build trust and confidently navigate both internally and externally at different levels.
