Summary:

The Health Officer will be responsible for the daily management of the Emergency Health project in Al Jazirah with travel to field locations across Wad Madani. They will be responsible for contributing to the design and implementation of project activities and monitoring the technical performance, in consultation with the Health Technical Coordinator, the project lead (Health Manager), and the sectorial Health Manager.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Supervise, and provide technical and management assistance in all Health interventions, particularly in establishing and maintaining integrated health services in all supported health clinics. 
  • Supervise staff and operations of all health workers including seconded staff and community health workers.
  • Design or use surveillance tools, such as screening, lab reports, and vital records, to identify health risks.
  • Conduct evaluation and appraisal of staff as required
  • Conduct training to build the capacity of staff as per the state ministry protocols
  • Together with the field team, develop project work plans that are communicated with the office 
  • Identify areas where health interventions are appropriate and assist in securing resources by contributing to the development of competitive proposals to donors.
  • Ensure availability of reporting tools, registers, ANC, EPI cards, and treatment protocols/job aids in all health clinics
  • Compile and submit activity reports including statistical and narrative analysis 
  • Monitor stock levels of all the medical supplies and equipment; request and transport supplies promptly with the assistance of a logistician
  • Liaise with other RI programs, other implementing partners, and local authorities for proper collaboration and coordination of activities
  • Liaise with the State MoH on issues of capacity building and support in the design of health policies and the implementation of evidence-based activities at the State level
  • Coordinate with the State Nutrition Directorate department on health issues in monthly meetings and supportive supervision
  • Plan and implement monthly support supervision visits to all project sites
  • Represent RI in all state-level health and protection cluster meetings
  • Ensure an active and effective referral pathway for emergency cases as per RI policy 
  • Perform additional tasks as required

Qualification and Experience:

  • Medical Doctor with at least two years of experience in Health programming in humanitarian settings of which at least 12 months should have been spent working with an INGO.        
  • Experience working with community mobilization and integrated interventions 
  • Program Management experience
  • Experience in responding to emergencies
  • Previous report writing experience
  • Computer literate
  • Leadership and supervision
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Arabic
  • Fluency in English required
