Under the supervision of Child Protection Officer, the Child Protection Assistant/Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day implementation of the various child protection activities in the field locations under her/his responsibility.
the main responsibilities are to plan activities, supervise, implement, and monitor the impact of activities taking place in Multipurpose Centers (MPC), Child Friendly Spaces (CFS), Adolescent Girl Friendly Spaces (GFS) and other MHPSS activities, in addition to strengthening community-based structures to monitor, report and response to the risks affecting children from the community as part of system strengthening approaches. S/he plays a key focal point role to develop material, plan sessions, communicate messaging, build capacities of activity facilitators to deliver the planned activities in quality and time. And develop inter-sectoral activities and strategies in coordination with other sectors. For this, s/he needs to constantly listen, gather and use information and feedback provided by children, adolescents, and other community members.
Duties and responsibilities:
- The Child Protection Assistant will be responsible for implementation of general child protection intervention. Hershel will devote 100% Loeb to this Award.
- Ensure the organization and the implementation of all protection activities at field level in accordance with the agreed workplan and meeting Minimum Standards for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action (CPMS) in all aspects of the work.
- Collaborate in the development of curricula, tools and other resources for activities hosted in the CFSs and CFSs.
- Facilitate activities in collaboration with activities’ facilitator.
- Identify strategies to ensure that activates are cultural appropriate, gender and age sensitive and that activities represent and include different population groups (ethnicities, minorities, vulnerabilities)
- Identify, design, and facilitate activities tailored to age and vulnerability type.
- Ensure activities taking place in agreed protection facilities like (MPC, CFS, GFS, school, accelerated learning centers or any other places are relevant and, as much as possible, innovative
- Draft work plan in collaboration with children and activities’ facilitators for planned activities with children.
- Establish and strengthen Community Based Child Protection Networks/ groups (CBCPN) and conduct regular meetings with them to get information on trends, community dynamics, community acceptance to modify program accordingly.
- Support in the development of IEC (information, education, and communication material) for use in the education and child protection facilities and for the wider community in the catchment areas.
- Refer SGBV survivors and other children with need of specialized services to the Case Management team for their actions and referrals (ensuring to not proactively seek for survivors).
- Participate in conducting needs and programmatic assessments in targeted locations.
- Engage with communities directly and create awareness on child rights, child protection, and other protection-related issues.
- Organize trainings for community members, partner staff and other local authorities on protection topics.
- Identify protection trends and bring this to the attention of the line manager for action planning.
- Conduct sensitization activities at the field level in close coordination with CBCPN and CP Officer.
- Conduct community meetings, FGDs, and other direct activities as part of protection monitoring.
- Participate in relevant field level coordination meetings.
- Manage SC protection assets assigned to the field of operational locations.
- Conduct any delegated activities as assigned by SC management at the field level including supervision of field bases.
- Contribute to development of service mapping and referral pathways are updated by locations and ensure that these are disseminated and understood among staff and facilitators in all program areas.
- Coordinate and contribute to community-based child protection system, make sure that a clear ToR is understood and followed, that the CBCPCs are receiving appropriate capacity building, support, and coaching.
Human Recourse Management and activity monitoring
- Hold weekly planning and supervision/ evaluation meetings with the protection facility facilitators in each site to ensure that plans are followed, and activities implemented according to standard operating procedures and quality benchmarks.
- Supervise and lead on the development of the weekly plans, reports, and facility activity reports.
- Monitor attendance of animators and volunteers and identify ways of supporting them and collaborate with CBCPN to have relevant mechanisms for improving the attendance.
- Collaborate with the MEAL team and the CP Officer to ensure activities feedback mechanisms are child friendly and relevant and informs both activities based inside and outside the CFS and GFSs.
- With support from the MEAL team, gather children’s (at the CFSs) and adolescent girls’ (at the GFSs) feedback on activities, schedule and methodologies used.
- Monitor the quality and impact of activities.
Reporting
- Lead on the development and submission of weekly activity reports, including the weekly attendance in for the various activities, including MPC, CFSs and GFSs.
- Provide timely and quality inputs to meet reporting requirements and timeline; necessary activity and protection reports (weekly, monthly, ad hoc).
- Ensure all CP protection activities are documented, filed and up to date.
- Under supervision of the CP Officer, ensure good practices are captured, documented, and disseminated at project level and thematic program level.
Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:
- Educational background in social sciences, psychology, or another relevant field at minimum at the level of secondary education, or equivalent experience from working directly with children.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills and capacity to maintain relations with government officials, community leaders, children, and youth.
- Basic knowledge in computer use including Microsoft Office and excel.
- Flexibility and willingness to change work practices and hours and spend time in the field, sometimes in difficult conditions and with limited resources, and with remote management.
- The successful candidates must know and understand the local context including child development in the context; relationship dynamics within the community; and cultural practices impacting on child welfare.
- Understand protection concerns for children, have good knowledge of indicators for and consequences of abuse, neglect, exploitation, and violence on children, and demonstrate a strong commitment to work in child protection.
- The ability to manage complex and diverse workload and to work with tight deadlines.
- Good understanding of English and Arabic is desirable.
- The capacity and willingness to be extremely flexible and accommodating in difficult and sometimes insecure working circumstances.
- Demonstrates ability and commitment toward diversity and inclusion.
- Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles including rights-based approaches and child safeguarding policies and procedures.
Strict adherence to humanitarian, Protection and GBV principles and standards, as well as organizational policies including Code of Conduct and Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA)
