The needs of children and young people at risk of and affected by the conflict, epidemics, and climate change, are at the heart of UNICEF’s work in Sudan. This includes large-scale response to emergencies and lifesaving needs; investment in preparedness and resilience; seeking durable solutions for displaced people; supporting conflict prevention, social cohesion, and peace; building and strengthening support to and partnerships with civil society, local and international NGOs, private sector, frontline workers and local institutions; and preserving and strengthening systems that deliver basic services.

The Construction Manager reports to the Chief Supply and Logistics as per the Country Office (CO) set-up and is responsible for managing the construction activities of a large country office. The management of construction projects includes planning, support to procurement, as well as monitoring of construction works on site. The incumbent collaborates closely with UNICEF Programme/ Operations in defining construction interventions to meet programmatic needs and achieve results for children and provides technical and advisory support to the Government and partners on construction project management.

As an advocate for children, you will have the following duties/tasks:

  1. Management of construction unit
  2. Collaboration with the UNICEF Programme and coordination with Government counterparts
  3. Preparation of design and technical documents
  4. Support to the procurement process
  5. Monitoring of construction projects

To qualify as a Champion for every child you will have: 

Education:

  • An advanced university degree is required in civil engineering, construction engineering, architecture, or another relevant area, or a relevant first-level university degree (Bachelor’s) in conjunction with a valid relevant professional certification is required.
  • A first-level university degree (Bachelor’s) in a relevant technical field (as identified above), in conjunction with an additional two (2) years of relevant work experience may be taken instead of an advanced university degree.

Experience:

  • A minimum of eight (8) years of relevant experience, at the national and/or international levels, in project management, site supervision, quality assurance, and/or other directly related technical fields is required.
  • Understanding of development and humanitarian work.
  • Emergency experience is an advantage.

Language:

  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.

Eligible staff members in the IP category, National Officers (NO) or General Service (GS) on fixed-term, continuing, or permanent contracts applying to IP TA positions dedicated to L3 (or L2) Response, may be able to retain a lien and their fixed-term entitlements. The conditions of the temporary assignment will vary depending on the status of their post and their current tour of duty, and relocation entitlements may be limited as per the relevant policies.
