Org. Setting and Reporting
The position is located in the United Nations Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS). The United Nations Security Council adopted resolution 2524 (2020) authorizing the mandate of UNITAMS, which is to assist the political transition, progress towards democratic governance, protection and promotion of human rights and sustainable peace; support peace processes and the implementation of future peace agreements, assist peacebuilding, civilian protection and rule of law, in particular in Blue Nile and South Kordofan (the Two Areas) and Darfur; and support the mobilization of economic and development assistance and the coordination of humanitarian assistance.
The position is based in Khartoum and is located in the Office of The Chief of Staff in the Integrated Mission Analysis Team. The incumbent will report to the Information Analyst.
Responsibilities
Within the limits of delegated authority, the Associate Information Analyst will be responsible for performing the following duties:
• Assist in gathering information in support of the UNITAMS leadership team (MLT), as required; together with the Information Analyst, help identify areas for potential research and analysis.
• In close coordination with other units in UNITAMS, maintain an understanding of the political, security, humanitarian, and human rights situation in the Mission area and region; follow unfolding events; conduct trend analysis and mid- to long-term predictive analysis; work with colleagues to gather and verify information; and be able to select, confirm, and deliver the relevant information, with the appropriate political context, in a concise manner (written or oral),
including preparing data visualizations;
• Collate, evaluate and provide short or long-term analysis on developments/events affecting the implementation of Mission mandate, using sources such as Mission components (civilian, police), national military/civilian actors, NGOs, media and other key stakeholders;
• Gather and analyze information on local conflicts, land issues, local political developments, security environment, military developments, presence of foreign armed groups, cross-border illegal activities affecting the peace process, as requested;
• Maintain a system for classifying and storing confidential information;
• Contribute to situational awareness by producing timely accurate and analytical reports and briefings for Mission leadership;
• Contribute to the drafting of the weekly situational report of the mission
• Contribute to drafting updates for UNOCC when needed
• In coordination with the Information Analyst, provide written inputs for the crisis coordination cell
• Participate in fact-finding and other missions to the field;
• Foster effective working relationships with other Mission components, the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) and relevant external actors and organizations;
• Present feasible solutions to reduce or manage the risks of different threats
• Performs other duties, as assigned.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in International Relations or a related subject is required. A first-level university degree in combination with other relevant academic qualifications and/or experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Work Experience
A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in political affairs, civil
affairs, humanitarian affairs, journalism, military and police intelligence, security analysis, crisis operations and management, or related field, is required.
Professional experience preparing summary, quantitative and analytical reports on a variety of
issues is required.
Experience working in an entity of the United Nations system (such as JMAC or JOC or an analytical cell) or a comparable international organization is desirable.
Experience working in or on the Horn of Africa region is desirable.
Experience developing data visualizations or in information management is desirable.
Excellent drafting skills in English is required.
Languages
French and English are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required.
Assessment
