Org. Setting and Reporting
The UNODC Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa (ROMENA) internship is for two months with an opportunity for extension, pending on the needs of the department.
The aim of the internship is to provide the selected candidate with hands on experience in the United Nations. The candidate will gain research skills as well as apply this research and drafting skills on the core components of the project: crime prevention, criminal justice, and violence against women. The selected candidate will also have the opportunity to contribute to both the planning of, and participation in, workshops held with counterparts to tackle the project’s core components, leading to a deeper understanding of how UNODC is working to promote criminal justice as well as end violence against women in the region.
The internship is UNPAID and part-time.
Interns work five days per week (35.5 hours) under the direct supervision of the Head of Office in Sudan
Due to the COVID-19 situation, applicants should be willing to undertake part or the entire internship remotely subject to the situation both at the duty station and in their countries of origin.

Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of national and regional technical assistance workshops, meetings, high-level events and conferences.
- Conduct research on criminal justice related fields.
- Contribute to the elaboration of background documents, presentations, briefing notes, summaries, talking points and speeches.
- Assist in collating various information and awareness raising materials in the area of drug prevention, prison reform, violence against women, trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants

- Teamwork: Good interpersonal skills, ability to work collaboratively with colleagues from different national and cultural backgrounds to achieve organizational goals.

Education
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:
- Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation (OFFICIAL PROOF FROM THE UNIVERSITY IN SUPPORT OF ONE OF THE ABOVE OPTIONS HAS TO BE ATTACHED TO THE INSPIRA APPLICATION);
- Be computer literate in standard software applications;
- Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
- Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.

United Nations Considerations
According to article 101, paragraph 3, of the Charter of the United Nations, the paramount consideration in the employment of the staff is the necessity of securing the highest standards of efficiency, competence, and integrity.
