Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

Description of task

The scope of the activities listed below may vary, depending on the length of the assignment and phase of the crisis.

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Head of Communication or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the Digital Communications Specialist will be responsible for the following:

Key Functions:

q Digital media strategy development, delivery and implementation, including conceptualizing and delivering innovative digital communications projects

q Digital platform/social media management – UNDP Sudan Website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and others

q Utilize digital/social media tools and channels to support Sudan and UNDP Sudan objectives

q Developing a broad range of multimedia communications materials and visualizations tailored both to national and international audiences and partners

q Providing guidance and training on digital technologies and standards

1. Digital media strategy development, delivery, and implementation, including conceptualizing and delivering innovative digital communications projects

q Under supervisor’s guidance, develop/support the development of the overall Country Office digital media strategy, and manage delivery and implementation;

q Design, support and deliver digital outreach activities in support of Country Office corporate priorities, Sudan’s national priorities, and programme priorities (Peace and Stabilization; Rule of Law and Justice Reform; Democratic Transition and Economic Recovery; Energy & Environment; Health for Development);

q Plan and execute digital media support for campaigns, activities, and events, including national dialogues and other major events;

q Liaise with UN and UNDP HQ teams, and UNDP Regional Hub, to plan and coordinate social media campaigns and activities;

q Establish audience targets and monitor activities to gauge progress;

q Collect and analyze social media data to discover, report, and assess trends and adapt social media strategies accordingly;

2. Digital platform/social media management

q Overseeing regular posting, engagement, and activities across UNDP Sudan’s social media channels in Arabic and English;

q Maintenance, content management, and expansion of UNDP Sudan English/Arabic websites, including managing the launch of the Arabic version of the website (content provided), and deployment of new website layout;

q Develop, utilize, edit and translate social media content, including graphics, videos, kits, and plans;

q Manage quarterly UNDP Sudan e-newsletter development and dispatch;

q Ensure that all content is timely, accurate, and compelling;

q Test and optimize the content through new approaches and on emerging platforms;

q Ensure compliance with UNDP and UN social media guidelines, brand guidelines and other guidance;

q Ensure sensitivities are taken into consideration and addressed in digital activity and content production.

q Liaising with partners to ensure content is approved and maintaining close communication with partners to ensure visibility opportunities, events, and campaigns;

q Managing the Country Office photo library.

3. Utilize digital/social media tools and channels to support Sudan and UNDP Sudan objectives

q Establish and manage digital tools for outreach, two-way communication, interaction, and dialogues;

q Manage interactions with key domestic and international influencers to support UNDP Sudan and other priorities;

q Create and support the planning and development of a wide series of campaigns and multimedia products including microsites, webinars, and other innovative formats showcasing UNDP’s key events and priorities;

q Identify and develop creative opportunities to increase engagement from key audiences and raise awareness of UNDP´s work;

q Contribute to key policy discussions to ensure key digital priorities are addressed in the planning of campaigns for UNDP Sudan and also take lead on digital campaigns with other UN agencies and partners;

q Identify ways to ensure UNDP Sudan’s digital platforms or products showcase successes and results while fostering development dialogue and engagement.

q Support crisis response and emergencies via digital channels;

4. Developing a broad range of multimedia communications materials and visualizations

q Conceptualize, research, edit and produce multimedia stories, graphics, videos, and other digital communication products in English and Arabic that are clear, concise, vivid, and convey key messages to target audiences;

q Development of standardized infographics and visualizations on UNDP Sudan results and development data;

q Design creative graphics, banners, posters, GIFs, and animations for social media and events in alignment with an existing communications strategy to support building awareness and engagement.

5. Providing guidance and training on digital technologies and standards

q Support to CO staff in the identification, documenting, and drafting of best practices and lessons learned related to online communication.

q Organization of training for the CO staff on effective online communications and advocacy, with a focus on field office managers.

Perform any other duties or related tasks as required by or assigned by the supervisor.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers program mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:

· Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take an active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);

· Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country.

· Provide annual and end of assignment self-reports on UN Volunteer actions, results, and opportunities.

· Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;

· Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;

· Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level

Bachelor degree or equivalent

Educational additional comments

University degree in Multimedia, Digital/Social Media, Marketing/Communications, Journalism, International Relations, Graphic Design desirable, but not a requirement.

Certification in Multimedia, Digital/Social Media, Marketing/Communications, Journalism, International Relations, Graphic Design, or related fields.

Required experience

48 Months

Experience remark

4 years of relevant experience at the national level in Multimedia, Digital/Social Media, Marketing/Communications, Journalism, International Relations, Graphic Design, or related fields.

Proven experience in social media management, content production, graphic design, audio-visual production. Experience in Adobe Suite i.e. Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere or similar tools.

Experience in web-based management systems.

Language skills
