Background:
Windle Trust International (WTI) is an International NGO that has been operating in Sudan since 1999.
WTI challenges poverty and inequality by expanding access and improving the quality of education and training, for communities affected by conflict displacement, neglect or discrimination. WTI manages a variety of donor funded education projects. Projects are delivered in close cooperation with project donors, local partners and government departments.
Role:
To ensure the effective management and supervision of the delivery of WTI programmes throughout Sudan.
Key responsibilities:
Monitoring and Evaluation:
- Provide technical and other support to ensure sound implementation, monitoring and
evaluation of WTI’s work in Sudan. - Work with the programme team to develop and refine Monitoring and Evaluation tools and establish clear systems and procedures for measuring progress in all programmes: training and supporting staff in using them.
- Promote understanding of the importance of measuring programme impact and programme quality as well as activities, encourage staff to take these fully into account when designing. implementing and reporting on their work.
- Monitor and document programme learning and ensure this is fed back regularly to staff, notably at team meetings and annual reviews.
Reporting:
- Collate and evaluate all programme reports from the States.
- Prepare nthly programme reports for the senior management team meeting.
- Assist the Country Director in compiling and writing programme, management and donor reports.
Programme, design development and management:
- Be part of the senior management team (SMT) and attend all SMT meetings.
- work with the senior management team to collate and evaluate all programme reports from the States.
- Work with the Country Director to write specific proposals and budgets.
- Assist the Country Director in compiling and writing programme, management and donor reports.
- Prepare monthly programme report for the senior management team meeting.
- Work with the Country Director to research and design programmes in line with strategies.
- Ensure with other members of the SMT that appropriate training materials and other equipment are delivered efficiently to training centers.
Personnel management:
- Manage a designated number of Project/Field Coordinators; ensure they have clear objectives and regular feedback on their performance, and other support as required.
- Carry out annual appraisals for those staff reporting, and promote a good supportive team ethos.
- Work with the Country Director as required to identify, recruit, brief and deploy programme staff.
- Comply with WTI personnel policies and relevant employment regulations.
External liaison:
This post forms part of the senior management team responsible for maintaining good operational links with relevant agencies, government departments and educational institutions in the Sudan. The post- holder may therefore be required to:
- Participate in project assessments, proposal development and fund raising.
- Represent WTI in high level meetings with government departments, donor and or partner groups.
- Support the Project/Field Coordinators in meetings with State-level officials.
- Represent WTI on thematic working group meetings/ workshops/Clusters/Education Sector with the Federal and State Ministries of Education.
Other Duties:
- Help with other work and provide cover for staff on leave when required and set the example for a mutually supportive staff team.
- Work with others in the Khartoum management team to recruit and oversee candidates for WTI’s UK scholarship scheme in line with agreed policies. Ensure candidates are dealt with in a clear, fair and supportive manner and that they are offered personal advice when necessary.
- Promote good communication and sharing of Information among the staff teams in Sudan and with other Windle teams in South Sudan, East Africa and the UK.
Person Specification and Qualification:
- Master’s degree in social sciences or other relevant field.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Project/programme management at the charitable sector and Non-Governmental Organization, preferably International.
- At least 2 years’ experience in senior management.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills, including very good knowledge of English
language and fluency in Arabic. - Competent IT skills, including ability to use Microsoft Office (especially, Word and Excel).
- Good organization skills.
- Ability to deal in a friendly and helpful way with people of different nationalities and backgrounds is essential.
- Sympathy with the aims and objectives of the organization.
