Mission

Geneva Call is a neutral and impartial non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting respect for international humanitarian norms in armed conflict and other situations of violence. Geneva Call’s mission is to ensure that armed groups and de facto authorities (AGDA) respect International Humanitarian Law and basic humanitarian principles in the areas where they fight or they control.

Role

The program coordinator is responsible for Program design and implementation at the country level.  

Core Responsibilities

Responsible for Program implementation at the Country level

  • Design adapted program strategy at the country level for ANSA’s and Communities engagement per GC guidelines. 
  • Supervise and overview the implementation of the GC program in Sudan to ensure that the objectives of Geneva Call’s operational and country strategy are well implemented
  • Map and develop an access strategy for relevant ANSAs to engage directly or with local partners.
  • Propose clear engagement opportunities to the Sudan Country Director.

Monitoring evaluation 

  • Ensure the appropriate design, implementation, monitoring, review, and evaluation of Geneva Call’s country operations in Sudan, in line with Geneva Call programmatic guidelines with a focus on planning and results.

Program budget monitoring

  • Ensuring that program expenditures are in line with the budgets 

External coordination 

  • Map and participate in relevant protection coordination mechanisms (clusters) and develop a network.
  • Participate when relevant to events and workshops around ANSA engagement and Protection work.

Transversal responsibilities

Management

  • Develop and manage a team of Project officers in the country, ensuring safe and efficient project delivery.

Compliance 

  • Ensure program implementation is aligned with internal standards and donor rules.

Main qualifications

Education and experience

  • A graduate degree or equivalent experience in international relations/another humanitarian field.
  • Proven experience in protection work in conflict and crisis-affected countries. 
  • Experience in Project Cycle Management.
  • Willingness and ability to travel at short notice.
  • At least 3-5 years of relevant experience in a humanitarian organization working in conflict areas in the protection field and engagement with armed actors (ANSAs, other armed actors) including in managing teams of at least 2 people.

Technical skills

  • Solid project management skills related to organizational development projects and international, cross-functional teams with a proven history of delivering results.
  • Excellent dispute resolution, facilitation, and team-building skills.
  • Substantial knowledge of international development systems, institutions, and donors, and of procedures, accountability frameworks, and best practices.
  • Ability to work under pressure and in conflict?affected settings, and handled numerous tasks simultaneously.
  • Understanding International Humanitarian Law is an asset.

Languages

  • Arabic (C1-C2) 
  • English (C1-C2)
  • The third language would be an asset.

Personal skills

  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a matrix management environment.  Developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching.
  • Strong communications skills (both written and verbal) at a level appropriate for high level external representation and ability to tailor communications to different audiences.
  • Interpersonal skills with experience of negotiation with weapon bearers and other stakeholders.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset.

Type of Contract: Fixed term contract (National position)

Activity rate: 100%, full-time position

Work place: Blue Nile, Sudan

Preferred start date: as soon as posisble
