The finance assistant will help implement and monitor NRC’s financial management activities in the Kabul Central area office. The finance assistant’s role is to assist in day to day implementation of financial responsibilities as defined. 

Generic responsibilities 

  1. Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks, and guidelines
  2. Implements independently procedures and activities within own function or core competency as delegated
  3. Responsible for organizing and delivering tasks in line with priorities and standards
  4. Develop and maintain knowledge of the specialist area of work in which technical assistance and support are being provided, to be most effective in supporting the team
  5. Use initiative in day-to-day problem-solving in line with agreed procedures, priorities, and standards for the area of work
  6. Prepare and develop status reports as required by management
  7. Ensure proper filing of documents 
  8. Promote and share ideas for improvement in the area of Livelihoods and Food Security

Specific responsibilities

  1. Review the supporting documentation Purchase Request, Purchase Orders and other implementing documents and make the necessary corrections as needed regarding the project numbers, account number, or other information and billing disputes.
  2. Verify calculations of the amounts claimed for payment and submit to the Senior Management for authorization to proceed with the payment process.
  3. Scan financial documents and submit them to SO for tax payment. 
  4. Cash payments and advance clearances.
  5. Receiving and expending funds and maintaining accurate records of the same, with receipts.
  6. Maintain and update hard copy files of documents and maintain an accessible filing system for use by the office staff.
  7. Translation of receipts and any other finance-related documents when required. 
  8. Prepare vouchers as requested.
  9. Perform office cash box-related activities and cash transactions in multiple currencies. 
  10. To enter all office cash transactions in the office cash boxes.
  11. Cash withdrawals from the bank 
  12. Any other tasks as assigned by the supervisor

Context-related skills, knowledge, and experience

  • Bachelor in Economics, Business Administration, and Accounting with specialized certification in Finance.
  • One year of relevant progressive experience.
  • Previous work experience with satisfactory performance in the same or similar functional area, preferably with UN or INGOs.
  • Good in English, both written and verbal.
