           Health, Safety & Security Training Coordinator (National Position) – Advertisement

NRC resumed operations in Sudan in 2020, providing humanitarian assistance, protection, and durable solutions. Our country programme integrates all of NRC’s six core competencies (camp management, education, ICLA, livelihoods, shelter, and WASH), and provides a rapid response capacity (including for the recent refugee emergency in eastern Sudan), and thematic capacities for cash and markets-based approaches, advocacy, digital modes of assistance, and co-leading various technical and strategic coordination platforms.

The Norwegian Refugee Council delivers high quality-aid where needs are greatest, helping people forced to flee. Around 6,000 men and women work for the Norwegian Refugee Council in many different countries, in complex and volatile environments.

The Health, Safety & Security Department in NRC Sudan is responsible for developing, evaluating and monitoring NRC’s approach to health, safety, security and crisis management in the country. The Training Coordinator will be an integral part of this team, focusing on the delivery of HSS-related training to all NRC staff in Sudan.

Role Specific Information

As delegated by HSS Manager, the Health, Safety & Security Training Coordinator is responsible for

The following is a brief description of the role.

Generic responsibilities:

  • Helps develop Sudan’s HSS training policy, schedule, and lesson plans
  • Delivers HSS training in accordance with schedule and timeline
  • Performs administrative and logistical tasks in relation to the planning, development, and execution of training
  • Provides technical direction and guidance on HSS training, competency, and behavior to the staff at all levels across the organization and HSS staff.
  • Maintains an overview of industry best training practices, developments, and tools.
  • Conducts HSS management tasks as directed by the HSS Manager
  • Deploys to area and field offices to deliver training as directed

Specific responsibilities:

These responsibilities shall be adapted to the particularities of the job location and context, phase of operation, strategic focus, and type of intervention. This section shall be revised whenever a new employee is hired or the context changes significantly.

  • Support the implementation of the NRC Sudan HSS training strategy and schedule
  • To operationally manage the NRC HEIST on delivery, and develops and maintain the high quality of this training.
  • Responsible for admin and logistics in training delivery, including procurements
  • Development and delivery of new training initiated by the HSS Manager

Our Ideal Candidate:

  • Excellent command of the English language (written and spoken)
  • Strong report writing skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree-level of education or 4 years relevant work experience.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in the delivery of training, preferably from the NGO or UN sector, but can also be private sector (not including military or private security). Other relevant experience might compensate for the lack of such.
  • Solid understanding of principles and practices in broad humanitarian action, NGO safety and risk management, humanitarian access, and civil-military coordination.
  • Substantial and demonstrated prior experience as a trainer, with an effective and professional training style, and the ability to develop, implement, facilitate, and impart learning to senior management and to a wide range of audiences.

Preferred:

  • Professional qualifications or studies in general management, security/risk management and adult learning.
  • Professional certificates as an instructor within first aid, advanced driving, and other relevant subjects
  • Prior work experience at a regional or global level
  • Experience or qualifications in humanitarian access or negotiation

Travel: 30%
