Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager and technical guidance from the WASH Specialist Khartoum Office, The WASH Officer will carry over, the implementation, monitoring and progress reporting of WASH projects.

  • Plans to manage and supervise the implementation of wash activities.
  • Manages all resources entrusted to him for the implementation of plans (staff, vehicles, money and policies).
  • Designs operation plans and schedules.
  • Prepares list of WASH equipment, materials and others for the procurement sector.
  • At least spend 20 days per month in the field and project implementation area. 

Monitoring

  • Conduct a spot check for WASH services delivery and ensure all planned activities are implemented and delivered according to WASH standards (Sphere, local) and conduct required corrections and actions.
  • Follow up the implementation of WASH activities in close coordination with local partners and ensure WASH quality benchmarks were met for all delivered services and activities.
  • Supports and strengthens the water supply system and promotes hygiene and sanitation services.

Reporting, assessment and proposal development

  • Provide daily, weekly and monthly reports on the implementation of WASH activities and update projects IPTTs every month. 
  • Assists with developing proposal and concept papers.
  • Participate in related assessments and surveys.

Technical support/ capacity building

  • Provides technical advice and support to WASH local partners as well as community-based structures such as WASH committees, hygiene promotors and water sources management committees. 

Coordination/ Representation

  • Coordinate with and mobilize local communities, relevant government bodies and local NGOs to participate effectively in Wash program activities.
  • Coordinate with relevant partners to ensure implementation of activities.
  • Participates in WASH sectoral coordination meetings when required.
  • Represent Save the Children in official meetings and workshops, related to Wash, conducted by government sectors and other partners.
  • Implements Wash activities in close coordination with related sectors from government and other partners.
  • Works closely with WES, MOH and other relevant government departments and promotes good relationships with line government ministries, commissions, communities and partners.

Child Safeguarding

  • Ensure that child safeguarding policy, standards and procedures are well maintained and adhered to while implementation of WASH activities.
  • Ensure that child safeguarding risks associated with all project cycle processes are identified and mitigation measures are in place.

Any other duties may be assigned by his supervisors.

Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Essential

  • BSc in Water Engineering, public Environmental health or another relevant related field
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience with the WASH sector, NGO/UN Agency, with good command in and ability to understand WASH issues. 

Desirable

  • Computer skills in MS packages (windows, word, excel, etc.)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Arabic.
  • Very good organizational and leadership Skills.
