POSITION OVERVIEW
The Wash Officer will be responsible for coordinating and implementing water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) programs in Sudan on behalf of MedGlobal. The officer will work closely with local communities, government authorities, and partner organizations to ensure the effective delivery of WASH services, with a focus on providing medical and health education services to people in need. The Wash Officer will contribute to improving the overall health and well-being of vulnerable populations by promoting access to safe water, improved sanitation facilities, and proper hygiene practices.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Project Planning and Implementation:
- Develop, implement, and monitor WASH programs, projects, and activities in alignment with the organization’s goals and objectives.
- Conduct assessments to identify the WASH needs of communities and design appropriate interventions.
- Collaborate with local stakeholders, government authorities, and partner organizations to ensure coordinated and efficient project implementation.
- Oversee the construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation of water supply systems, sanitation facilities, and hygiene promotion activities.
- Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Promotion:
- Facilitate the establishment of safe water sources, including wells, boreholes, and water treatment systems.
- Ensure the construction and maintenance of hygienic sanitation facilities, such as latrines and bathing areas.
- Develop and implement hygiene promotion campaigns to raise awareness and educate communities on proper hygiene practices, including handwashing, menstrual hygiene, and waste management.
- Conduct training sessions for community members, healthcare workers, and volunteers to promote sustainable behavior change.
- Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting:
- Develop monitoring and evaluation frameworks to assess the impact and effectiveness of WASH interventions.
- Regularly collect and analyze data related to water quality, sanitation coverage, and hygiene behaviors to track progress and identify areas for improvement.
- Prepare timely and accurate reports on project activities, outcomes, and challenges for internal and external stakeholders.
- Capacity Building and Coordination:
- Provide technical guidance and support to local staff, partners, and volunteers involved in WASH activities.
- Conduct training sessions and workshops to build the capacity of staff and community members in WASH-related topics.
- Foster partnerships and collaborations with relevant stakeholders, including government agencies, local NGOs, and community leaders, to enhance program impact and sustainability.
- Budgeting and Resource Management:
- Contribute to the development and management of project budgets, ensuring effective and efficient utilization of allocated resources.
- Monitor project expenditures and procurement processes, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and donor requirements.
Qualifications and Experience
Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, environmental health, public health, or a related field. A master’s degree is desirable.
- At least 3-5 years of experience in implementing WASH programs, preferably in humanitarian or development settings.
- Strong knowledge of water supply systems, sanitation infrastructure, and hygiene promotion approaches.
- Familiarity with relevant guidelines and standards, such as Sphere and WHO WASH guidelines.
- Proven experience in project planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Fluency in Arabic. Knowledge of English is highly desirable.
- Willingness to travel and work in challenging and remote environments
- Must be Sudanese Nationality.
