Performing autonomously, complex/advanced servicing, maintenance, and repair of MSF vehicles and other engines according to MSF standards and procedures, to ensure vehicles are in perfect running conditions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performing autonomously and ensuring all necessary complex / advanced maintenance and repair of MSF vehicles and mechanical equipment to ensure they are in perfect condition for their use. This includes the following tasks :
- Performing maintenance according to the instructions in the logbook, ensuring all types of services to all vehicles are done on time (i.e., mini A, medium, B, and full C, and special services referred to in the logbook when possible).
- Testing all vehicles after each service is concluded and before it is handed back to their drivers
- Keeping a record of the vehicle’s driver remarks, and carrying out repairs if needed (vehicles and other mechanical equipment), and filling in the service, repair,, or vehicle log book. Reporting to the line manager any problem related to MSF vehicles
- In the case of a breakdown, making a diagnosis, informing the line manager, and after approval, carrying out any complex / advanced repairs needed.
- Following upon the validity of all documents (annual inspections, insurance, or any other required documents)
- Assisting in the briefing or training of drivers regarding vehicle services and maintenance
- Managing the stock of consumable items, filling in the stock cards, carrying out physical stock inventories, executing orders necessary for renewing stock, and avoiding any shortage
- Responsible for the equipment and tools, including extinguishers, checking they are used correctly and safely, maintaining and renewing them when necessary, and keeping the inventory updated.
- Keeping the working area clean and tidy.
- Ensuring that all record sheets and books related to maintenance are always completed and preparing needed reports before and after any repair or required maintenance.
MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities
- Independently perform all necessary advanced maintenance and repairs on MSF vehicles and other motorized equipment to ensure they remain in optimal working condition. Tasks include, but are not limited to:
- Conducting regular maintenance using the MSF vehicle logbook, ensuring timely completion of all service types (e.g., minor Service A, intermediate Service B, and major Service C), as well as any special services specified.
- Testing all vehicles following each service to confirm roadworthiness before returning them to drivers.
- Responding to driver feedback and performing necessary repairs on vehicles, generators, and other motorized equipment. Accurately record all maintenance and repair activities in the vehicle logbook and job cards, and input relevant data into the MyFleet system.
- Reporting major technical issues beyond the workshop’s capacity to the line manager and requesting additional support or solutions as needed.
- Diagnosing major breakdowns, informing the line manager, and, upon approval, carrying out advanced repairs or coordinating external support services.
- Monitoring the validity and renewal of all legal documents for vehicles (e.g., annual inspections, road licenses, insurance, etc.).
- Assisting with the briefing and training of drivers on daily vehicle maintenance routines and supporting them in conducting weekly vehicle checks.
- Following up on externally outsourced maintenance tasks and providing updates to the line manager when necessary.
- Managing the inventory of consumables, maintaining stock cards, conducting physical stock counts, placing orders to replenish supplies, and preventing stock shortages.
- Identifying required spare parts using MSF’s online catalogues and other relevant resources for all vehicles, generators, and equipment used in the Sudan mission.
- Ensuring proper use, maintenance, and renewal of tools and workshop equipment, including fire extinguishers. Maintain an up-to-date inventory of tools and equipment.
- Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe working environment.
- Managing the contingency stock of fuel stored at the workshop, including distribution to vehicles, generators, and other equipment. Keep stock cards updated and monitor fuel consumption.
- Ready to be deployed to the field upon request to provide technical support to mechanic assistants and driver-mechanics in the field, including covering gaps in the field.
Minimum Qualification, Skills, and Experience Required:
